Time was, Datel were happy to simply make units that helped you cheat at your games. For the Action Replay 2.2 though, they've really gone to town, throwing in numerous pre-loaded cheats as well as a multi-region DVD solution. The core of things is the same as ever, though--you insert a piece of hardware into your console (in this case into one of the memory card slots), and load up the accompanying software. From there, you can cheat away to your heart's content, either through the cheats built into the unit, or by inputting your own which Datel continue to publish and update. The cheats vary, although infinite lives, invincibility, unlocking secrets and more are pretty much the staple diet.

Furthermore, the Action Replay unit also includes the memory card compression technology included in the Mega Memory 16 to help you squeeze extra space for your memory card, as well as the aforementioned multi-region DVD capabilities. It can get a bit fiddly having to set the software up first for all of these, but generally you're up and running within a minute.

The bottom line though is that the Action Replay 2.2 does what it says on the box and more, offering far more than just a cheat cartridge for your money. It's easy to use, and can be invaluable when you get stuck in the middle of a game; a bit of a bargain, all told. --Simon Brew

Action Replay 2 (V2) is King!
..I have used the Action Replay cartridges for years. I bought my wife one for her Gameboy Advance and I have just bought the cartridge for my PS2.

I bought cartridges for the Commodore 64, years gone by, and had always found them useful, because the Action Replay is MORE than a simple cheating cartridge.
This version for the PS2 is an incredible product, and cheap at the price too, you can "crush"your game save data, to save space, and when you want to use it again simply "uncrush" it again, as you can't use "crushed" data on your games as they won't recognise them.
You can play any region (1-6) DVD's, in RGB. I don't have any region 1 DVD's, but make sure your TV is NTSC compatible for playing them.

Lastly, you can cheat! Even the odds and have enough ammo to kill everything in sight!

The action Replay is really 3 cartridges rolled into one, so what are you waiting for?

Why I gave it 5 stars? Because this cheat system is the best that I have come across. It is easy to use and comes with a memory card to store cheats! The cheats are very easy to use, the manual has all the info! If you are a person who doesn't want to put much time on games, then I wouldn't recommend this to you, because inserting new cheats from the website takes very long unless you have the link to the computer and the keyboard(Which I don't).

Not only does this cheat system make your game much more easier, it also crushes the memory on your memory card allowing more free space on your memory card and it also turns your Ps2 into a multi-region DVD player! The most annoying thing is that you have to reset the Ps2 and select all the cheats again everytime you want to play your game with the cheats, but what the heck! It's worth it!

For example, I got really stuck on Final Fantasy X on a boss because the boss would almost kill all of your characters in one move, I almost got crazy when I fought against him, but when I got the cheats, I killed the boss and completed the game! I also completed another 5 games using the system!

Definitely buy this one if you can't complete a game or are having difficulties.

True Multi Region DVD
Now that DVD Region X for the playstation does not come with the memory module meaning that you have to fork out for another memory card this is a much better proposition. It is simple to use (which is just as well considering the lack of instructions) and plays any DVD's, even the new ones that can detect multi region players, Superb!
