THE ONLY RGB CABLE THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
I bought an unofficial RGB scart cable and it didnt make any difference to the picture quality what so ever. It looked exactly the same as the one supplied with the GameCube. I decided to try this one and it dramactically changes the picture quality, the colours are brighter, the picture is sharper and overall the games look better! Nintendo apparently made it so unofficial RGB Scart cables don't give a proper RGB signal, meaning the picture doesn't change at all, only the Official Nintendo Gamecube RGB Scart cable works. To give you an idea of the difference in quality its very much like the differences between these listed below (the first one is similar to the quality with the composite cable supplied with the console, the second is similar to the quality with this Official RGB scart cable.)
VHS -> DVD
Analogue TV -> Digital TV
So don't go wasting your money on an unofficial one like I did at first, get this! It's definately worth the money!
Lesser of two evils!
Having a decent Widescreen TV and Home Theatre set-up, I might be forgiven for wishing to hook my new GameCube up to my system in the best possible way. A month on and I am still waiting! Don't get me wrong; this cable is THE one you need if you want the best picture out of your Cube, but that is only because it is the ONLY true RGB one currently available. However, let's be clear. This cable is not made with OFC copper conductors (superior, purer signal integrity); it is not gold plated (inhibits oxidisation - i.e. your investment lasts a heck of a lot longer - and improves conductivity) [NB-nor "copper" plated by the way]; nor are the individual conductors (wires) individually screened (so as to protect the signal from the enormous electro-magnetic field created by a TV and stops signal bleed from one wire into another); and finally, ANY decent AV Cube cable allows you to get 60hz frame rate - not just this one. Therefore, I cannot comprehend any possible justification for the extremely high price tag of this cable. Nintendo claim this cable provides "excellent picture and audio quality". No one would argue about the picture quality. But the audio? It is aggravating to note that the AV cable provided free with the Cube imparts a better audio transmission than does this product. In fact, if you want to connect your Cube to a Surround Sound receiver (how else are you gonna get the spine-tingling PRO-LOGIC II of 'Rogue Leader'?) there is no feasible way you can do it with this cable. However, several other Scart cables do provide separate left & right audio-phono plugs. Considering then, that this is the only real RGB capable lead you can currently buy, one can only wonder in amazement why Nintendo omitted to supply such a costly cable WITHOUT any option of connecting to a Surround Sound receiver. So, it's the lesser of two evils. Save a few quid and buy a cable with the audio plugs so as to enable amazing Surround Sound but, admittedly, poor picture quality, or fork out and get amazing pictures, but pathetic sound from your TV's meagre speakers. Nintendo can surely do much better than this?
Crisper Gaming
This is a must for ppl using a larger screen TV and wanting to play using the 60hz option on some games such as Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II. This basically does as it says and splits the sound and 3 colours seperatley , i.e. Red Green and Blue. The official Nintendo one is the only RGB Scart cable to go for in my opinion as from trying other products in the past and never being as good as the Official ones.
Remember though it is worth paying the dosh to just see Rogue Leader in a crisper graphics....
A must buy !
