Synopsis
A fantastic and bloody sword & sorcery epic, THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER stars Lee Horsley as young Prince Talon, a young man stripped of his rightful inheritance by the evil King Cromwell (Richard Moll) years before when Cromwell slaughtered the young prince's parents and stole his kingdom. However, as his father was dying, he gave the young prince a three-bladed sword with which Talon was to avenge his death. Years later, Talon has become a mercenary and has amassed an army with which he plans to take back his kingdom. Unfortunately, Cromwell has resurrected an ancient sorcerer named Xusia who possess powers that will enable Cromwell to take over the world, ensuring that Prince Talon will not easily win his kingdom back. A lavish film filled with a number of astounding action sequences, THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER has deservedly earned a considerable cult following.

fantastic fantacy film
A must for fantasy fans.Plenty of action, humor and good effects, along with a little romance and plenty of surprises.Lee Horsley plays the ever persistant hero against the evil king who killed his parents. With a gruesome sorcerer thrown in this all action film is a well earned hit.
SWORD & SORCERY AT ITS ALMOST BEST
VERY GOOD STORY LINE, TALON SON OF A KING WATCHES HIS FATHER DIE BY THE HANDS OF HIS ENEMY WHO TAKES OVER HIS THRONE, YEARS LATER HE TRAVELS BACK NOT KNOWN TO ANY ONE AND DECIDES TO HELP A FAIR(OK DARK HAIRED) MAIDEN ONLY TO COME UP AGAINST HIS FATHERS KILLER.
THE ACTING AND EFFECTS ARE PRETTY GOOD FOR THE DATE, JUST WISHED IT HAD BEEN MADE NOW ADAYS. THE STORY LINE WOULD BE PERFECT WITH TODAYS SPECIAL EFFECTS THROWN IN
NEAT FILM, SHOULD BE BETTER PICTURE QUALITY THOUGH!
Good Sword & Sorcery action film, set in Dark Age/Medieval times (as opposed to Conan/Lord Of The Rings pre-history) with an overt fantasy edge.
It's successful in overcoming it's budgetary limitations, with plenty of action, decent sets/costumes etc and inventive visual FX. There's quite a high gore content here with grisly plague victims, heads cleaved in half, and hearts magically torn out! A very good villain too with the demonic, Sorcerer of the title (Great Make Up FX). The fight choreography is reasonable too with an impressive final sword fight ( incl. a three bladed mystical sword that can actually propel the blades, in missile fashion!)
The film has more of an Indiana Jones feel, than the intensity of Conan The Barbarian or Excalibur. It actually reminds me of Paul Verhoeven's Flesh And Blood, but with the Fantasy elements in full effect.
Oh, and there's a fair share of T & A for the lads!
The real dissapointment though is the picture quality - It looks a bit grainy, as if the film was copied direct from VHS onto DVD, instead of properly remastered. :(
It is still worth buying despite this, as still (just) better than VHS and it's a good film!
