Amazon.co.uk Review
Get Over It has one of the most inventive title sequences for years: glum Berke (Ben Foster), dumped by his girlfriend, walks down the street oblivious to the singers, brass band and cheerleaders who are performing the title song behind him. Unfortunately the rest of the film does not live up to it's opening promise, but along the way writer R Lee Fleming Jr and director Tommy O'Haver create a pleasant enough adolescent, romantic comedy with some fine gags.
An accident-prone date's demolition of a sushi restaurant is a splendidly engineered piece of slapstick and Berke's permissive parents (Swoozy Kurz and Ed Begley Jr), who work as sex education experts, offer scene-stealing performances. Berke's pursuit of "his" Alison leads him into the school play--a musical version of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Kirsten Dunst plays the sweet-natured girl waiting for him to see sense, and manages to makes something charming out of a rather dull part. Martin Short overdoes things as the show's writer/director.
On the DVD: Get Over It is presented on disc in widescreen 2.35:1 and with Dolby Digital 5.0 sound, which does full justice to the musical numbers at the film's climax. It comes with an extended outtakes sequence--including many different versions of Martin Short's scenes, some deleted scenes and alternate takes and cast bios. --Roz Kaveney

Synopsis
Director Tommy O'Haver's (BILLY'S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS) sophomore effort is a breezy teen romance that injects a much needed jolt of wit and energy into an overworked genre. Ben Foster (FREAKS AND GEEKS) stars as Berke, a fairly nondescript basketball player whose romance with the beautiful Allison (Melissa Sagemiller) has made him the happiest man in school as well as the envy of his classmates. Unfortunately, Allison doesn't feel the same way and dumps him in the opening minutes of the film. Determined to win her back, Berke auditions for the high school play, "A Midsummer Night's Rockin' Dream," in which Allison has snagged the lead role. Thwarting his hopes of reconciliation is the guy that Allison just started dating, Striker (Shane West), a transfer student who heads a semi-famous boy band and sports a laughable European accent. Enlisting the help of his best friend's sister, Kelly (Kirsten Dunst), Berke tries to rehearse for the play and finds his emotions caught between his past with Allison and his burgeoning feelings for Kelly. Sweet and funny (especially during Martin Short's appearances as the play's name-dropping director), GET OVER IT is an excellent teen film bolstered by an exceptional cast.
Customer Reviews
There's Something About Mary meets 10 Things, and great too!
Did you love There's Something about Mary? Of course you did! Then I'm betting you thought 10 Things I Hate About You also rocked! Well, in that case, get this video now! It's soooo good! It's a classic lighthearted High School romantic comedy that will have you laughing Friends-style. The actors are all great, even if Striker's accent and Sisqo's obligatory song and dance are slightly irritating. Kirsten Dunst is great as Kelly - and checking the cast list for doubles it seems as though it's actually her singing voice featured in the film. Roswell High fans will adore Colin Hanks's Alex-like character Felix. Yes, there's a lot of strange names in this one (Berk, Felix, Striker to name but a few) and the start (during credits - you'll know what I mean if you've seen it) is very surreal... but A Midsummer Night's Rocking Eve is hilarious. The story's predicatable - but in that way that'll make you go "aaaaawwww". So go on, GET OVER IT and buy this top chick flick!
One of those movies!
This movie is definitely one of the best teen films I have ever watched.
It is about a young man who gets dumped and spends the whole time trying to get his love back, and he doesn't realise his real love is staring him right in the face! A beautiful, romantic story, with lots of laughs and lots of singing. Based on the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Nights Dream. (Sort of!)
It is one of those films that can be put on again and again without getting tired of it. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a lighthearted comedy with brilliant music!
Big Red
This is such a fab teen flick. I seen it one the television one night and i had to buy it!
Each character has their own traits whether they're desperate, dim or just damn pushy! The best part of the film for me was the way it flashed into sheaksphere scenes and the songs were just hillarious!! The acting is superb if your into these sorta films and it's deffinatly one to laugh out loud at!
