A truley good hub
Needing a hub i looked into the belkin range that have recieved numerous awards,i came across this one and instantly admired its looks :) As a hub it is perfectly adaquate with 7 ports and is self-powered so you can use all those draining USB devices without problem. Windows 2000 recognized it instantly and I was able to use it from the word go. Visualy it is very appealing as the case is see though but the shape means you cant stack anything "on top of it" unfortunatly. This deserves 5 stars easily.
Good cheap hub
After searching the web for a 7 port USB hub I decided upon this one. It works fine, has LEDS indicating activity and power and best of all shares power across the ports . Whatever you do don't unplug the power to the port whilst peripherals are plugged in and the computer on as I managed to fry mine doing this. This act of stupidity aside it's everything you would expect from a hub. You plug USB things in, they work.
Belkin USB Hub
Great product. I only have 2 USB ports on my laptop. However, I have a broadband modem, a USB mouse, a scanner, printer and a USB commection kit for my Nokia phone. Obviously, this Hub was the answer to my problem. Literally is just plug in and play. I'm running windows XP, and I just plugged the hub into my computer, and plugged all my devices into the hub. I had no drivers or anything to install which was great. I've only had it for a few days now but it seems to be working great.
From what I understand though, it is not USB 2.0 compatible so will now work with external harddrives etc. However, if i was to ever get one of these I could just plug it straight into my other spare port on thr back of my laptop. Also something worth noting is that it's apparently not very good with devices that draw power from USB (some scanners etc that don't have a power supply and obtain power from the computer). having said that, my optical mouse has a light that uses power and it has no problems with that.
All in all, a fool proof product that certainly tidies up my desktop and saves me from having to constantly plug and unplug other devices.
Another plus is that they can be linked to other USB hubs to create a daisy chain of even more free ports.
4 stars from me. Only loses a star because it can't handle USB 2.0. The lights in the front looks cool aswell.
