Customer Reviews

A tense and very enjoyable although repetitive score4
When I first listened to 'Main Titles', I was initially put off this score, but after listening to the later parts of 'Hand of Fate Part 1' my opinion was changed. Most of the score revolves around a three-note motif that sets the idea of something strange in your mind and as you listen more, it grows on you. It is sometimes used as a backdrop for other elements but has a presence in virtually all tracks apart from 'Recruiting Office', which is a quieter and slower piece which actually develops another sub-theme.

Most of the tracks on this release are meant to scare the daylights out of you with little thematic elements, especially 'Brazilian Video' with very alien like undertones gradually building up, and others such as 'Throwing a Stone' are simply mysterious but still with that motif. The Hand of Fate is a superb 2 parter with a very lively part 1 starting with a scary buildup and ending with a spectacular orchestral piece which is very emotional and reminds me of certain areas of Dante's Peak, also by James Newton Howard. Part 2 is a much quieter and thematic ending to the album, based on repeated shifts of the main motif. 'Baby Monitor' is similar to HOF Part 2 although shorter and a bit more mysterious. Most of the others are based on repeats of the motif with other instruments to give an appropriate 'chill'.

The whole album has an acquired taste with not much theme to it and a lot of long, strong percussive moments and not everyone will like it, but those who enjoy tense, 'jump out of your seat' music, will like it. Its only downside is that it tends to get a bit repetitive and boring with the same motif repeated throughout but overall is an very enjoyable listen, especially once you have seen the film, as you have something to relate to.

Breathtaking Music5
I really love the film Signs so I couldn't wait to listen to the soundtrack. The music is as chilling as the film and when you listen to this score you remember all the scary moments of the film. My favourite track has to be 'Hand of Fate' (part one), the music is absolutely fantastic. I think that if you loved the film this soundtrack is essential to buy...... Enjoy.

Wonderful5
James Hewton Howard's best area - suspense.

He has done an incredible job on this score and the three note motif he uses gives me chills! The highlights of this soundtrack are undoubtedly 'Main Titles' and the 'Hand of fate' tracks.

Great soundtrack - I recommend it!
