Product Description

Grand Theft Auto 3 lets you explore the fully realised universe that is Liberty City, and complete gangland missions. You can steal any car you see, from sports cars to taxis, and even boats. There are over a dozen ways to take out other characters, including fist-fighting, baseball bat, handgun, Uzi, rocket launcher, and Molotov cocktail. The game world has unpredictable weather, a variety of pedestrian types who act in unique ways, changing times of day and night, and a multi-tiered, fully corrupt police force. The revenge plot offers strong story elements that are balanced with the game's non-linear freedom-of-movement.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Ever fancied being a tooled-up hoodlum, living on the wrong side of the law and mixing it up with street gangs in a war over turf, drugs and cold, hard cash? Welcome to Grand Theft Auto 3 on the PlayStation 2. Big brother of previous outings on the PSone and PC, GTA 3 has gone fully 3-D to bring the fictitious environs of Liberty City to life. Any worries about graphical speed on the PS2 are quickly dispelled the first time you carjack a taxi and take off like a lunatic, mowing down the innocent and incurring the wrath of law enforcement. This is silky-smooth stuff and the graphical details are truly awesome--all the vehicles are fully deformable and ripping off car doors reveals a driver complete with steering wheels inside.

Sonically, GTA 3 cannot be beaten; in-car tunes are provided from one of nine radio stations, each with its own distinct feel, and the sounds of the city are all here too; walk around for a while and you'll hear far-off police sirens, motorists abusing one another and general chit-chat as people go about their business.

The game is very open-ended. Its major focus is the mission-based goals--start out as a convict accidentally sprung from jail and work your way up to become a shining light in one of the city's controlling gangs. If that gets dull, hijack a cab, police car, ambulance or fire engine and carry out missions suitable for your mode of transport, and if all else fails, find the ludicrously dangerous looking ramps and hit them hard for some big air and big cash bonuses.

It has to be said that GTA 3 fully warrants its 18 certificate, dealing as it does with mob warfare, indiscriminate murders, auto crimes, prostitution and more. The language gets a little "fruity" from time to time and you can't help but wince as you watch innocents get in the way of a good firefight. At the end of the day, though, this is a game and nothing more; thankfully, it's a good game, a very, very good game in fact, so buy it now. Or we'll send Luigi and the boys round. --Chris Russell

"The most gleefully sociopathic slice of fun since Mr De Niro asked us what exactly we were looking at. 5/5."

"Cross Gone In 60 Seconds with Reservoir Dogs and you'd probably knock up a tame version of GTA III. 9.9/10."

So good5
This game is brilliant. Cars, boats and guns and more guns. The graphics is about a 7/10, the audio about 9/10 but the gameplay 11/10. This is such a fun game. Plenty of gory gripping rampaging and rushing missions. You run around the three islands doing jobs for people eg. having to kill people. I know what you're thinking 'boring'. But acually extremely fun which never gets you bored. You keep on playing with your car(s) that you rob and guns you buy and gradually move on in the game. It's not a fixed mission game where you have to do missions all the time. You can just muck around and kill people, steal cars, all for fun. You get you're bat out and go and kill the citizens which can be quite fun and funny (not in real life). Overall a brilliant game, rated 10/10 so i recommend you buy it and you will be happy with your purchase.

the best game in the world ever,, ever!5
to put it simply, this is the best game in the world ever. No ifs or buts, it just is.Drive a car around and perform drive by shootings on random passers by, steal a boat and try and get it onto land, steal a police car and become a copper for the day, hell you can even be an ice cream man if you like, its all in here. For me though it has to be the ability to just jack a car and cruise round the streets picking up 'ladies of the night', not that im that kind of guy, its just a novelty,, e-hem!!!From the moment i bought this game i was hooked. The gameplay is immense and the missions are huge, there are so many 'mini missions' that i am still finding them now, and i have had this game for over a year now.I couldnt imagine life without it.The graphics are smooth and free flowing and the soundtrack is unbelieveable, something for everyone in there from 80s cheese to funky hip hop.Be warned, this game will consume your life.

A lesson to us all5
Have you been patient? I have. I refused to preorder my copy incase the hype was to fall flat on its face. However, after popping into my local store and picking up GTA3 on Friday morning, the hype was standing proud...sticking two fingers up at the cynics!

This game is fantastic. It is one of the most open-ended, non-linear games I've ever played. Remember this is not a "life" simulation, and does not hope to recreate the most minute detail.

Liberty City - is a busy active place to live. The makers have "gone to town" with this game, and have breathed life into an already fantastic genre. The graphics are great. No their not Gran Turismo beating, but they were never meant to be. The style is always simple and effective. The cut scenes are very well done, with the voice acting being off a suitably outstanding nature. You really feel that you've been taken under the wing of the local hoodlums, and have a chance to prove yourself. Anyone who accuses this game of being repetitive, should take a good, long look at themselves. The choices are massive. Why not take a break from the missions, and improve those driving skills? Many jumps are to be found, and the desire for greater leaps never fades.

The evening rolls in on an otherwise sunny day. Headlights blur gently into the horizon, and rain starts to fall. Watch those handbrake skids,as it gets awfully slippy when the skies have opened.

Don't fancy getting into a one on one? Stay in the car, and mow the perpetrator down.....or how about sticking that UZI against the glass and riddling him/her with bullets? The choice is yours. ALWAYS.

Grab some munchies...a few cold ones...and get ready for endless fun.
