Set for the first time in the Pacific Theatre of Operations from 1941-1944, Medal of Honor Rising Sun gives players a sense of the courage it took to fight the Japanese from Pearl Harbour to the shores of the Philippine Islands. Players will assume the role of Marine Corporal Joseph Griffin, as he survives the attack on Pearl Harbour, leads the assault of Guadalcanal, and finally rescues his brother from a Japanese POW camp in the Philippines.
Armed with his wits and a variety of authentic weapons, it's up to players to stop the Japanese war machine in its tracks. Players can even team up with a friend in the all-new co-op multi-player mode to battle the Japanese forces. Along the way, players will earn awards and medals for their meritorious service in defeating the enemy.
As with the original Medal of Honor, the producers sought council from numerous outside sources to make certain the game is as historically authentic and realistic as possible. Captain Dale Dye, who served as military technical advisor on the previous titles in the Medal of Honor franchise, continues his efforts with the Medal of Honor Rising Sun team to ensure the authenticity of the game.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Following on from a succession of hugely popular campaigns across numerous formats, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun brings the franchise back to consoles with another engrossing first-person action game. The action is taken to the Pacific Theatre for the first time, plunging the player into the shoes of Marine Corporal Joseph Griffin. Over the course of the game, he has a lot to get through too. There's Pearl Harbor to survive. His brother to rescue. And the small matter of a number of Japanese soldiers who stand in the way…
In truth, the formula hasn't moved on much for the franchise, but then it does work spectacularly well. The game's various missions are varied, and they demand elements of stealth, action and a bit of sabotage along the way. And they're not afraid to pull the proverbial rug from underneath to keep you on your toes. As ever, the multimedia elements border on spectacular. The musical scores of Medal of Honor games are rarely given the credit they deserve, but their contribution really can't be understated. The cinematic visuals, however, do tend to hog the headlines, and it's easy to see why. As you fight to complete a mission with explosions going off all around you there's little time to notice them.
A couple of mild criticisms, then. There isn't much scope to deviate from the set path through the game, which is very tightly scripted. Not a bad thing, but not something that will appeal to everyone. Plus it would be nice to see a few more risks taken with the Medal of Honor formula. These mild grumbles aside, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun is simply a very good video game. It's tense, gripping and desperately addictive. And when you ultimately see the end game sequence, you really will be thirsting for more. --Simon Brew

Amaturish
This game is a real disappointment. It has a very rushed feel to it and comes across as a very amateurish production. If you are thinking of buying this on the bases of Allied Assault then don't bother - it has nothing additional to offer and isn’t even delivered to the same standard. This game will pass time if you want to spend a short period of time with no thoughts running through your head – but for an interesting challenge stay well clear.
Plus points -
> The introduction and first level are a good start - you have to fight your way off of a ship in the Pearl Harbor attack.
> Frequent ‘call in points’ allowing you to save your progress throughout levels.
Negative points -
> Far too easy and short - completed in one day.
> Graphics are terrible - taking shots next to walls is sometimes impossible as the bullets hit off of an 'invisible' surface.
> Direct hits to the enemy are handled in different ways - a head shot doesn't necessarily result in death, in some cases up to four direct head shots are required (very annoying when you know you have made a good shot and want to move on to the next).
> The enemy is very unintelligent – they run head on at you when you can easily shoot them down, swing swords nowhere near you and fire shots in any direction.
> Every level after the first is practically the same - walking through thick rainforest.
> There are not enough ideas in the game - you seem to end up doing the same thing again and again.
> The last level is terrible - walking around a ship shooting the enemy and blowing up planes, but never reaching the expected climax.
Rising Damp has more Thrills
What a huge dissapointment this game is.
As a fan of the M.O.H series I was expecting much from this title (especially on Xbox) only to be stunned by it's poorness. The original Medal of Honour on the PS1 is superior to this title in both terms of gameplay and graphics.
Ugly graphics, sluggish controls and enemies devoid of A.I
Lazy effort in time for the Silly Season by the guys at EA.
Save your money for something else.
Not up to the mark
Sorry to disagree with the other reviews here, but this just does not come up to the mark. I always hire before buying with console games, and this was £3.50 well spent to save wasting £30 to £40. Perhaps I am expecting too much from the X Box version, but it does not compare with PC versions of original Medal of Honor. The AI is terrible, in the second level you can stand next to Japanese soldiers and shoot them, they seem to make no logical moves at all.
Having recently seen Call of Duty running (top end PC) and hearing it is coming to the X Box then that has to be the way forward.
Examples that really annoy are the exploding barrel on the bridge close to the beginning of the game. You know it will explode when you walk past it, but can you shoot it or blow it up first?? Not a chance. Only played this for a couple of hours on a weekend rental, very dissapointing and certainly not going to get my money.
