Amazon.co.uk Review
F-Zero GX is the fastest racing game ever made--no question about it. As the original futuristic racing game it's also one of the most imaginative and fun to boot. For those who don't know, it's a racing game set in the far future--the original F-Zero on the SNES was the original inspiration for Wipeout, but now that Sony's future racing series seems to have run out of steam the stage is set for Nintendo's baby (now developed by Sega) to reclaim its crown.
Instead of boring flat courses you get to zoom around enormous rollercoaster-like tracks, constantly defying gravity and moving at speeds that make any other racer seem static. There are also up to 30 other "cars" on the track at the same time, which makes for an even more unusual and exciting race--especially when you realise you can knock them off to their flaming death at any time.
Another new aspect in the game is the degree to which you can customise your vehicle. You can edit or build from scratch your own car using parts you buy at the in-game shop, then add existing logos or ones you paint yourself to create your own personal speedmobile.
Despite all these original features the one thing F-Zero games have never had is very good graphics, but that's all changed now--GX features some quite stunning backdrops that make the impression of speed and height even more realistic than ever. Add in the four-player mode and this could even rob Mario Kart of its crown for the best next-gen racer around. --David Jenkins

Another must-buy for gamecube.
Nintendo's habit of farming out its key franchises to other developers has usually paid off in the past - just look at Metroid Prime. And after having played this game at E3, I can promise you that their faith in Amusement Vision and Sega has been well placed. For F-zero's legion of fans the wait is nearly over.
For those new to the series, F-zero is basically a futuristic racing game, renowned for its blistering speed, memorable cast of characters and cars, lush, vividly realized worlds and wide variety of high-octane thrills and spills... oh and without doubt the best game in the genre.
F-zero GX is easily the fastest incarnation of the game yet. Grand-prix mode is nothing short of unreal. Although, if anything, it might be too fast, and during my brief play on the game, I spent most of the time crashing into barriers or falling off the edge - there really is no margin for error. This will require practice, practice and more practice. The whole cast of cars and characters are there from the N64 version, and you can even mix and match parts to make your own vehicles! The game also includes 4-player simultaneous multi-player racers, which should be great fun. In most other areas gameplay follows closely to the game's previous incarnations.
Visually, this game simply blows all other futuristic racers out of the water. It looks incredible! The cars and their drivers are looking better than ever, and the incredibly vibrant, detailed worlds through which they race are simply stunning. From the urban grime of Mute City to the lush forest of Greenplant, the artists at AV have created an engaging and beautifully realistic range of worlds that will raise the bar for the entire genre.
For any fan of racing games, this will be a genuine must own.
An absolute classic
I was lucky enough to attend E3, the massive games convention that had both the Gamecube and Arcade versions of FZero on display. Both were utterly amazing. It is almost impossible to believe that FZero GX (the home version) is actually running on a console, an Xbox rep was standing behind me as I watched someone playing it and I heard him saying "it shouldn't be so smooth with so much going on". He's totally right. 29 other cars travelling at astonishing speed with lighting effects everywhere, fantastically detailed backgrounds and all running at 60 frames per second.....making it ultra SMOOOOTH. The game also opens with beautiful FMVs to set the scene. It's all very stylish.
My first worry with all this speed is that it would be impossible to control the game, but once I played it I was very happy to find that the gameplay is literally perfect and controlling the crafts is a joy. Any mistakes made are your own fault, not the controls, and this makes the game very addictive and satisfying. To top it all off the game sports a 4-player mode that is quite simply unreal. I don't know how all the speed, graphical quality and framerate are still in tact when 4 of you are playing at the same time. It's an incredible technological accomplishment that results in massive amounts of fun for the gamer.
The game is staggering right now, and i have a feeling that it's going to get universal acclaim from the gaming press on it's release. Sega and Nintendo have teamed up to make something VERY special!
Buy this game now, this will be the best game you have got
F-zero x, on the N64, was an excellent game. For the power of the machine, it ran quickly and easily, and its only downfall was the distinct lack of backgrounds.
Sega certainly had a lot of pressure on them to perform with this version, and they definitely don't disappoint. This game IS Incredible.
Where to start? Well, probably on the excellent Grand Prix mode. Up against 29 other racers, you compete for first place in one of 3 cups, each containing 5, unique courses each. In the first cup alone, you come across a huge power plant running off trees, a level on which lightning is striking all around you while you race through the heavy rain, and, of course, good old port town. Everything has been updated, and now the backgrounds are there, you can appreciate that they are truly stunning. Unfortunately, at the speed that you move at, you will not have time to look at the backgrounds unless you watch the replays, when you realise the attention to detail is incredible. Complete all three cups on standard mode and you will be rewarded with 5 new, excellent levels, a challenge, but well worth it.
There is also an excellent story mode in this game, taking captain falcon through some very difficult missions, all clever in their own way. Mixed with some very good cut scenes, this is certainly one of the games strong points.
These are just 2 of the secrets that F-Zero GX holds. It also has time trials, practices, craft designers (where you can build your own craft), logo designers (which you can put on the craft) and many more. This game is huge, and how Sega fitted it all into Gamecube's shiny little disk is incredible. The frame rate is a constant 60FPS and it is a joy to look at.
But before you decide to buy this game; be warned, it is extremely difficult, but hugely rewarding.
