Product Description

SingStar encourages even the most reticent singer to unleash their inner rock star. Its groundbreaking technology analyses the player's vocal skills, based on their pitch, tone and timing as they sing into the USB microphone (two are included), and provides feedback based on how well or badly they have sung.

SingStar's expansive track list (see below for details) features a wide variety of well-known songs from world-class artists. Each track is the artist's original recording and SingStar also includes the original music video for many of the songs.

SingStar features three gameplay modes that allow for between one and eight players to join in together. Sing Mode encourages players to simply pick up the mic and start singing, either alone or battling against a mate. Pass the Mic is the ultimate party game, encouraging duets and team competitions; and Star Maker allows budding stars to follow their dream from singing in the bedroom to performing in a sold-out concert for their adoring fans.

SingStar comes with two microphones that plug into PlayStation 2 via a USB adapter, offering an instant multi-play experience. In addition, the game is EyeToy compatible, allowing players to actually see themselves singing within the game.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Looking for one of the best multi-player party games on the PlayStation 2? You've just found it, and it's called SingStar. It's a game that tests you on your singing ability--or lack of--and serves up some rollicking entertainment while it does so.

It comes bundled with two surprisingly good-quality microphones, and the idea is that, in true karaoke style, songs with predominantly official backing videos appear on your screen and you have to sing the right words at the right time. Also, you'll find on-screen indicators as to what pitch you need to be singing at, and it's here that the game assesses you. Hit the right notes for the right amount of time, and you'll get high scores, which in career mode can then unlock virtual clubs to sing at and more songs, too.

The single-player mode is fairly simple and straightforward, but in multi-player mode SingStar strikes gold. The game comes laden with numerous little games, which can involve you passing the mic around, or joining up for a good old-fashioned duet. Then there's the outstanding battle mode, where two of you warble through the same song concurrently, and the game picks a winner at the end. Replete with the option to replay your performance and even use an EyeToy to be the star of the music video, SingStar is fantastic entertainment.

A couple of minor gripes: the aforementioned single-player mode is short-term fun at best, and could be improved; the 30 included songs--from bands as diverse as Atomic Kitten and Motörhead--are mostly well chosen and varied, but you'll work your way through them a little too quickly. (Add-on packs may well redress this.)

Ultimately, SingStar is innovative, very easy to get to grips with and when on top form, flat-out brilliant. For those looking for a multi-player game in particular, it comes very highly recommended. --Simon Brew

Fine family fun.5
Excellent laugh! Was roped into this on New Year's Day, and I thought it would be purgatory, but it wasn't. It was so fun that you just had to join in and have a laugh (and I'm 26 - far too old for this, or so I thought...) You should give it a go. We had all ages involved, from 11 to 60 and it kept us occupied for hours. Even those that can't really sing, myself included, managed to keep the team games competitive. I'd say buy it - you can do a lot worse. :o) Sing your head off. x

Child Tamer!5
My kids absolutely love the Singstar group of games, and so do I now. If you can close your ears to the endless wailing singing then this game is a godsend, once they turn it on they can't leave it alone and spend hours warbling along. Only downside is the number of their friends who decide to join them, thereby turning your home into a kiddy camp! One word of caution though, once you've bought the first one I would advise buying any follow up games. You can get heartily sick of hearing them warble the same songs over and over again. More Singstar please my ears need variety!

SingStar - great new party game!5
As a big fan of party games like Dancing Stage and Eye Toy Groove, I was really keen to try out SingStar. I've been playing it for a couple of days now, and I'm really impressed! I've only played it in the quick one and two player (battle) modes so far, but that has been really entertaining.

The selection of songs is pretty good, with something to suit most people. Motorhead "Ace of Spades", for example, will suit those who don't want to sing anything with too wide a vocal range, while Daniel Bedingfield's "If You're Not the One" is good for more ambitious vocalists!

The one and two player games can be played at three different levels: easy, medium and hard, with the game demanding more accurate pitch and timing as the difficulty level increases. Easy mode is reasonably generous, so its a good level when the players have a range of different vocal abilities. As long as you sing at roughly the right pitch you'll get the points, so people with great vocal control don't get too much of an advantage, which levels out the playing field a bit!

The game is great fun for when you have friends round, and not nearly as embarrassing as it first sounds! Unlike karaoke, its about hitting the right pitch and getting the timing right, and not about putting on a big show, so you just get involved in trying to get a good score, rather than worrying about how good/bad your voice sounds. The two player mode allows you to sing at the same time as someone else (either competitively in battle mode, or co-operatively in duet mode), taking the pressure off a bit!

My only complaint about the game would be that there are not quite enough songs included (there are only 30). It's a shame that Sony don't intend to bring out expansion packs for the game with more songs on them. However, there is still plenty of fun in the game as it is and I would highly recommend it.
