Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review
Those who saw Shrek 2 know the critics were thrilled for good reason, and those who hear the soundtrack will understand why music reviewers are hauling out the high praise. This is mood-mending, day-making stuff--that it happens to appeal to kids and adults couldn't matter less. Picking a standout among this hit parade is challenging--they are all great, including Counting Crows swingy "Accidentally in Love," and Pete Yorn's adrenaline-stirring "Ever Fallen in Love," as well as the more subdued soothers like Tom Waits' exquisite "Little Drop of Poison," and Joseph Arthur's yearning-burning "You're So True". --Tammy La Gorce
Album Description
The fairytale continues, in Shrek 2, as everyone's favourite ogre returns to face his greatest challenge of all--the in-laws. The brilliant lively movie has a soundtrack to match, which features some of the most respected names on the alternative music scene, many of whom have contributed exclusive tracks. Highlights include: "I Need Some Sleep" by the Eels, "Little Drop of Poison" by Tom Waits, "People Aint No Good" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "Changes" by Butterfly Boucher featuring David Bowie, and "Holding Out for a Hero" by Frou Frou.
Some of the voice cast have also contributed to the soundtrack, Jennifer Saunders gives Bonnie Tyler a run for her money with a cover of "Holding Out for a Hero" and Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas put in a thumping performance with their version of Ricky Martin's "Livin La Vida Loca".

Can't get enough of this CD!
I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Shrek 2, and thought I'd treat myself to the soundtrack in anticipation - this CD is brilliant - every single song is brilliant! Jennifer Saunders singing 'holding out for a hero' and Eddie Murphy & Antonio Banderas 'Livin La Vida Loca' are particualy favourites! Accidently in Love is an amazing song - great for driving to in the car.
This CD is perfect for listening when driving or doing boring housework, but especially for when freinds are round! You can all sing a long to the songs and have a great time!
Definitley a must buy! Can't afford to miss out!
great partner to the film
I was sitting watching the film in the cinema and suddenly jenifer saunders started to sing holding out for a hero. It was really good and I thought straight away that I had to buy the soundtrack, hoping this song would be on. When I saw that it was, along with Livin La Vida Loca sang by Eddie Murphy & Antonio Banderas, I had to buy it there and then. I know that whenever I have a party I'll be playing this Cd as it has so many good songs to sing along to. They also remind you of the film- great!
Not 2 bad...
I absolutely loved the original Shrek album and so was hoping of more of the same from the second. I wasn't disappointed. There are some great tunes on here, notably Counting Crows 'Accidentally In Love' which is the pure essence of summer with it's 'Strawberry Ice-Cream' lyric. Also Dashboard Confessional's 'As Lovers Go' which is lovely in its seduction. I love Joseph Arhtur's 'You're So Real' with the sixties clapping in the chorus - it's great. Then you've got the cover versions which are fantastic whether they stick close to the original like 'Changes' and 'Ever Fallen In Love' or almost start from scratch like Frou Frou's 'Holding On For A Hero'. Although I prefer the first Shrek soundtrack, as I find myself skipping tracks on this one, the great songs are definitely worth it. And if you've been waiting to capture Puss and Donkey putting Ricky Martin out of a job on 'Livin' la Vida Loca', look no further.
