Manufacturer's Description
Tasked with locating and ultimately defeating a new force in global terrorism, is a rapid response counter-terrorist unit made up of four Gulf War veterans; Bradley, Jones, Connors and Foley. The original heroes of Conflict: Desert Storm are back, this time having undergone intense training in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency techniques, all added to their wealth of extensive battlefield and special ops experience.
In ensuring the safety of the team Foley goes MIA and the team must enlist the help of sniper Carrie Sherman. As the missions become more deadly and the team start to uncover more of March 33's plans, its clear they face the greatest challenge of their careers to date.

Longer, trickier, a real challenge!
Having played every one of the Conflict games I knew that long levels were a trademark, but this latest edition certainly pushes new boundaries. The entire game took 2 of us the best part of 2 weeks to complete on multiplayer('hard' difficulty), putting in a good 1-2 hours a day. The 14 levels obviously differ in length and difficulty but most will take over an hour to complete.
Global Storm also packs other big changes and new features which combine to make it a tougher and more enjoyable challenge than its predecessors. By far the biggest change is in the quality of the enemy. These guys are a good step up from your Iraqi conscript or Vietnam teenager and make much better use of obstacles and movement to avoid your fire. They'll retreat if the odds are against them, use smoke grenades for cover and lay down cover fire while their comrades try to flank your position. To kill them also takes more accuracy and more bullets, you can shoot them in the limbs all day without success - only a clean headshot or sustained burst of fire to the upper body will do the job.
They're grenade throwing is scarily accurate and they're almost impossible to nail whilst they're moving - which seems to be constantly. There are obviously occasions when the AI doesn't work and they'll stand like statues while you engage in a firefight only yards from them but nothing's perfect I suppose.
The other big change is that manual aiming is now the only targeting option, which for me was a tricky transition from auto aim but you do get used to it after a few levels.
New features to this game include thermal vision (which we resorted to on most levels), flashbang grenades(effective, yet only useful in small rooms with enemy standing close together) and laser-sighting on some guns (looks flashy, thats about it)
You can also heal quicker and when switching between players the screen swoops so that you see where they are relative to your postion.
Disappointments with this game are the poor grenades (just like Vietnam) which seem to have the impact of a firecracker - the kill radius is about 2 ft and with a constantly moving enemy which will scarper the second you lob one they are a next to useless weapon. Also, your comrades are pretty poor at defending themselves and will often remove themselves from the good cover positions you put them in. Other gripes are the fact that you don't get the SAS option, and some of the enemy voices/accents are bloody annoying.
But overall a great game, now ready to take it on in Extreme!
Tougher and smarter
This game sees the return of the familiar characters of Foley, Conners, Bradley and Jones, now part of an elite terrorist fighting team who have more character and attitude than in their previous outings.
For those who have played the earlier games in the series, you'll notice there is no auto aim, which for me was quite an adustment to make. You now find yourself relying on the rest of the team to shoot straight (unless you never used the auto aim so you'll have no problem). There is more of an emphsis on stealth, although that becomes tricky when you have no silenced weapons. The enemy is smarter and hides behind stuff instead of running out to be easily shot at. With a smarter enemy, you need to plan out your missions more and conserve your ammo.
For those who havent played the previous games, i highly recommend this one. This is one of my favourite games i have and i've only had it for a few days. Another fine addition to the series.
I wasted my money on renting it first, it is a definent buy!
I rented it the same day it came out, on the 30th September and had a 6 hour game fest that same day with my mate, the two player co-op mode is so great in every dimension, the graphics are superb even better than the previous conflicts, the gameplay is amazing even better than the previous conflicts, and the story line is really clever too better than the previous conflicts! In the three days i had rented it out on i only got two hours of single player as my mate just wanted to keep playing! So the obvious choice was to buy it, i haven't yet clompeted it i really i dont want to, its really doubtfull anyone can complete it in under 3 days solid play in the medium difficulty setting so its longer than the other coflicts aswell. A must but for those who have palyed the previous games and a must try for those who haven't.
