Manufacturer's Description
The brand new Sony MP3 WALKMAN is the most cutting-edge yet, combining high-end design with ease-of-use and advanced functionality which seriously upgrades your listening experience. The 20GB NW-A3000 has space for up to 13,000 songs with up to 35 hours battery life and is made from a futuristic translucent material, sexy to the touch and gorgeous to look at. As it comes to life, the luminescent Organic EL display lights up. The three buttons make operating the player a cinch. Naturally, because it’s a Sony, the audio quality is impeccable.
Whether you’ve owned an MP3 player before or you’re new to them, you’ll find the new WALKMAN so simple to use. Just like a mobile phone, the display features nine navigational icons on the home menu from which you can manoeuvre up, down, left and right to search, shuffle and access all your favourite tracks. The search method is much simpler to use than other players as it’s easy to jump straight to the artist, album or song via their initials, rather than scrolling up and down a long list.
The WALKMAN features a revolutionary new ARTIST LINK function. This means that if you’re listening to an artist or track and you press the artist link button the new WALKMAN will search, find and display similar artists in that genre. What’s more, you can also choose how to ‘shuffle’. By selecting ‘My Favourite Shuffle’, the device automatically selects the most listened to 100 songs and plays them at random. The ‘Time Machine Shuffle’ function randomly selects a year and plays all of the songs from that particular year that are currently held on the device.
The WALKMAN will be accompanied by a whole range of design-matching accessories; a stylish remote control for easier navigation, various carrying cases, a docking station for convenient connection with the PC, as well as a docking speaker system giving the option to connect to a PC (data sync) and play music through the speakers
CONNECT Compatible
The WALKMAN comes complete with brand new software called "CONNECT Player". This software is necessary to store, transfer and update all your tracks on your PC. And with the CONNECT music downloads fully integrated into this software, it’s easy to go on-line and download tracks from the Sony music service.
CONNECT lets you access hundreds of thousands of tracks from old favourites to brand new cuts – and even more independent music that’s usually harder to find. It also gives you access to the latest news, reviews and biographies, so there’s plenty to keep you amused... All in all, the WALKMAN offers you the next level in MP3 players, combining the cutting-edge design you love with the sound quality and ease-of-use you demand.

Great Player, Poor Software
The player itself is a superb piece of design, but again the software is so unbelieveably complicated to use.
I Strongly reccomend Downloading RealPlayer, as as well as being free - it is very user friendly and can also encode cds into pretty much any format you care for, including ATRAC3, which is Sony's own format. Ive been using Realplayer for a few years now and all ive needed to do is install the Sony software and then just ignore it (as Realplayer needs some codecs from the sony software).
Hope this works for you - Dave
NWA3000 vs iPod
I first saw this player on the Sony UK website and I fell in love with it, it was so hot, so stylish.
It's a lot heavier than I expected, perhaps the same weight as the 20GB iPods. But it's just as hot as it looks in picture, palm-sized with a crystal clear screen.
It takes approx 8mins to transfer an entire album depending on the size. The CONNECT software is more like a Sony version of iTunes. What you really need to transfer the tracks is the SonicStage software, which I got from a previous mp3 player, and is also available online.
The player itself is user-friendly, although I haven't quite worked out how to make playlists the 'easy' way. You can search for tracks by album, artist or song initial as well as by Album, Artist or Song title; which is pretty convienient when you can't quite remember the full title of a song.
There is an Artist Link function which supposedly finds artists in similar genre's to your now playing item. I don't find this particularly useful since my own brain has a similar, faster function which doesn't take half as long as Artist Link; and unfortunately there's no games included.
Overall I think it's the sleek alternative to the overrated iPod. A must have for Sony lovers.
I don't see what all the fuss is about...
Firstly, the software I received with this machine works fine with me. I had an older Sony mp3 player that used Sonic Stage that was generally terrible, but the Connect software I received with this player is genuinely easy to use, and a heck of a lot faster than its Sonic Stage counterpart.
Buying something over £50 is generally a big deal for me, and as I had saved up for a while for a new mp3 player, I decided I would spend my time checking out every single mp3 player. I was put off getting an iPod due to all the people I knew that owned them that praised them to the sky, only to have them break every so often of varying faults. The philips new mp3 players seemed to look good and be the real deal, but battery life complaints put me off.
I listen to music a lot, so battery life is important, and the battery life here is excellent. I listen to it a lot, and so far have not had a problem when it has run out when I need it. I simply charge it when I have the time, and listen to it when I want. No problems there. This did attract me to getting this, as my last Sony mp3 player was just as good in the battery stakes.
I know there isn't a colour screen, but, seriously, I couldn't care less. It plays music beautifully, giving it a good, rich sound. When choosing this mp3 player I just realised that I wanted something that I could play music on; that was all I wanted. If you want that, then this is brilliant. Make your own playlists (seemingly lots), browse your last added tracks, browse tracks by year, see what the mp3 player has decided are your 'Top 100 tracks'; I mean, it is brilliant for doing what it does. Even my friends who owned iPods couldn't deny that.
And the price! Cheaper than an iPod! A 60GB iPod will set you back roughly £100 more. I know it has three times the space, but to be honest, I do not think I will ever fill 20GB, and I am a music nut.
All in all, I couldn't have wished for a better product.
