Synopsis
The sequel to the movie adaptation of the popular video game, HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2 follows two scientists/zombie hunters who arrive at a college campus in search of zombie blood needed to make a zombie vaccine. Carnage ensues.

Better than the first
Despite what most people thought, I really enjoyed the first House of the Dead so I bought the sequel aswell and I thought it was better than the first.

The story focuses on a group of soldiers led by Alex (Emmanuelle Vaugier) who are sent to infiltate a university complex that has been overun by zombies to find a cure using the blood of the first zombie. Needless to say, most of the soldiers are ripped to shreads by the zombies which have pretty good make-up for a B-movie.

This is a great film to watch if you want to take your brain out for 90 minutes.

AN ENTERTAINING SEQUEL TO THE TERRIBLE FIRST
Professor Curien (Sid Haig) is working on a cure to unleash the secrets of eternal life when an outbreak at the college turns everyone into brain-eating zombies. Army Col. Jordan Casper (Ellie Cornell) orders agents Alex (Emmanuelle Vaguer) and Ellis (Ed Quinn) to join a special ops team, lead by Dalton, (Sticky Fingaz) and his team to eradicate the threatening virus. Reaching the school, they begin encountering zombie after zombie, and slowly they begin to lose the team. One of the team members (James Parks) discovers the possibility that it could be transmitted via mosquitoes, but before he can tell anyone about it, the zombies break loose inside the school and force the team to split up. Determining that the mission now depends on getting a sample from a zombie to stop the infection, Alex and Ellis venture deep into the school to find the one zombie responsible for the outbreak.

The Good News: I was expecting this one to be pretty good, and it does have plenty of surprises. The film is incredibly action packed. The entire last half of the movie is really great, as the zombies have overrun the school where the soldiers are trapped and have to fight them off with some new and impressive ways of battling zombies. There are several highlights that are really original and pretty creative. The fast pace allows for continuous action, so something is always happening. Less than twenty minutes in, the soldiers are immediately thrust upon the zombies, so we then get to spend a lot of time with the soldiers fighting off and running around from the zombies, which is what zombies fans want and expect from these kinds of films. While I said that the other film had lots of action in it, this one is really wall-to-wall. We get not only one, but three scenes of the soldiers encountering massive hordes of zombies. One was pretty cool, as they exit and have to run past the crowd of zombies and reach safety before being eaten by the zombies. When they're ammunition runs out, they have to physically fight them off, which brings some pretty suspenseful scenes as they gather around them and fight them off while the zombies gather around them in droves. It's pretty suspenseful waiting to see who will get bitten, if they get bitten. That brings up another great factor about this movie: no one really knows who and when someone's going to die. It really allows for lots of suspense when it's hard to guess when someone's going to die, as well as who will. Some zombie always pops out to bite someone when they least expect it, and you're left wondering if they'll get saved by one of their squad members or not. As it gets further and further along, the gore gets better. We get a large assortment here, including dismembered arms, bite wounds all over the body, gunshots galore and much more. We get a lot of gore in here, much more than expected with all the bites involved. Several bodies get torn open in long sequences by many zombies, so there's more gore there. They will not be disappointed. So many more moments in here to mention I can't spoil them anymore. This one is a lot better than the first one.

The Bad News: Despite it being pretty cheesy, I found very little fault with this one. Some of the soldiers are clichéd, but that's what's normal about these movies.

The Final Verdict: Despite me not the original, I though this was a really good movie. Has a lot of cool moments and some new spins on what can happen to people around a zombie horde. Worth a look for zombie fans and those that enjoy the Sci-Fi Channel original films. Cheesy film lovers will also like it, but those that like more intelligence in their films should stay away.

better than part 1
House of the dead 2 is at least better than the awful HOTD 1 which isnt saying much,luckily the worst director in the world uwe boll stays away from this but theres not much to recommend it over other zombie films. The action and zombies themselves are handles better than the first movie and the cast is moderatley better too,led by ed quinn who was in starship troopers. Listening to the commentary track the producers and director see this as a lot better than most of the people who've watched it,a part 3 is mentioned,prob on par with something like resident evil but doesnt begin to touch romero or the italian zombie classics..worth a rent but dont buy
