Good Effort3
I bought this game a few days ago and at was immediately impressed with the introduction movie and atmosphere it generates, reminding me of the fun that Killzone on PS2 gave.
On playing, I was pleasantly pleased with the graphics and controls. Sound effects are good and you do get immersed in the gameplay. There is a very easy to use command system that allows you to order an AI buddy around. However at times the controls for your character seem a little fiddly and in the absence of a target locking system to allow free movement and accurate aiming at the same time, many bullets are wasted and targets missed as the action intensifies often leading to annoying deaths if being attacked by rockets in particular. For the most part you will find yourself kneeling behind cover and popping up to take aimed shots at the enemy which works well. Charging straight at the enemy and unleashing a barage of fire also works until you run out of ammo. Navigating minefields is also annoying due to zoomed out view and PSP control stick which has again led to a few annoying deaths as the character steps on mines as I try to walk him past. Reloading your weappon takes a few seconds and picking an opportune moment to do so is a critical skill.
The game features a campaign mode and a challenge mode which can be used to unlock new special skills for your soldier such as the ability to carry an extra grenade etc.
The game will offer a good challenge and I'm sure I will enjoy it as I progress further but some of the annoyances prevent a higher score.

One the PSP's finest, and most original games5
I am not usually into 3rd person (or 1st person - for that matter) shooters, but I've found this game very addictive. The isometric 3rd person graphics are unique and very good, giving you a good overview of your situation. The AI of your enemies is also very good, and you also have fellow soldiers who are under your command in the game - which is also a very good aspect of the game. You will die a lot!! But you'll just keep restarting just to try another approach at the level, this game is about trial and error. You will need to judge your environment/ terrain as well as which weapon will do the job. Just running out guns blazing is suicide in this game. The checkpoints on the level mean the restarting is not too painful (however you can only save your progression through levels, not the level's checkpoints - which strangely and quite slyly keeps you playing, so you don't waste your efforts on that particular level). Completing the missions is very satisfying as you get to see cut scenes which take you deeper into the story. The storyline, although simple is interesting enough to tempt you into trying a few more times to get through the levels. This game is a "must" purchase for any PSP owner.

killzone has that certain something4
I just can't put this game down, no matter how many times I die, I still keep hitting that restart from last check point button. The graphics and controls are superb, the range of weapons, vehicles and maps keep it all fresh and unexpected, also it's one of the few games I'm determined to finish (I'm about 60% through at the mo). I've never written a review before, which if nothing else will tell you how much I like and would recommend this game. Roll on Killzone Lib 2.
