Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
For this Nancy Meyers-directed romantic comedy, Hans Zimmer serves up a breezy score quite different from the more heavy-duty works he's become known for. This may have something to do with the film's tone, of course, but also with the fact that Zimmer has sole credit on only two cues, having co-written the others with members of his extensive stable of helpers, including guitarist Heitor Pereira and even pop artist Imogen Heap (who also contributes wordless vocals in addition to getting writing credits on three tracks). In the film, Jack Black's character is a composer who namedrops Ennio Morricone; Zimmer steps up to the challenge with the opening track, "Maestro" (one of his solo compositions), which evidently seeks to emulate the romantic sweep of some of Morricone's scores and nearly succeeds. (This may sound like a criticism but getting near Morricone level is nothing to sneeze at.) A little later "Verso e Prosa," a collaboration between Pereira and Herb Alpert --who contributes his immediately identifiable trumpet--also stands out. If the rest of the CD had shown as much spirited zest as these two tracks, the album could have become a prized addition to any soundtrack lover's library; alas, the other cues are too devoid of personality to make a lasting impression. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Album Description
The holidays are rung in by the joyful and triumphant score by Hans Zimmer.

From the Artist
THE COMPOSER ABOUT HIS WORK ON THE HOLIDAY:......Well, I'm working on The Holiday right now, and again I actually wrote all the tunes before Nancy Meyers went off shooting. The orchestration wasn't quite right with what I had done early on, but I'm fixing that now with the picture.

The Holiday is a film about a film composer....

Well, not really, but Jack Black does play a film composer in the film. Nancy got the idea while she was watching Ramin [Djwadi] when we were working on Something's Gotta Give.

I assume that Jack Black's character is composing something in the film, so is he's composing something that you will end up writing?

Yeah, I don't know if it will still be in the movie by the time it's finished, you know how these things go. But I was trying to explain to Nancy why one tune that's in the movie sounded a particular way, and I was talking about one of the characters and saying how he was cheeky, and how it's a cheeky tune! And the first time I see the movie, here's Jack's character saying "It's a cheeky tune!" so I'm thinking, "Oh right, he got it!"

So you have your score, and then the score within the film?

He doesn't write that much, but what's fun is that he does get to talk about other people's film scores...

Does he talk about yours?

He talks about one of them... (soundtrack.net)

Brilliant film - Bridget Jones's Diary without the bad guy.5
I am not to sure if it is fair to compare this film with BJD. It has a lovely cuddly feel to it more so in fact. No baddies, good humour, not too predictable either. But one of the best films I have seen this year. It is certainly a girly film but that is not necessarily a bad thing. One for Christmas I think (the usual snow scenes filmed in Godalming and Shere UK)
So if your a girl or a sensitive man who doesn't mind shedding a few tears (I am), you MUST watch this film.

At last with me!!!5
I didn't give it a second thought when I saw it in Amazon, I had to have it!!!I have been looking for it since I watched the movie but somehow it wasn't available.
It is a great CD with lovely relaxing music!!

LOVELY FILM - BEAUTIFUL SOUNDTRACK!5
I had watched this film so many times, and grown to love the music accompaniment, that I bought this soundtrack to enjoy at any time. It is beautiful. Whether at home or in the car, this is easy listening at its best. 'Maestro' is such a haunting theme, and the light latin american interludes are great.
