Synopsis
Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor from the original ALIEN, is awakened after 57 years of drifting through space, her stories disbelieved by company executives who tell her that the alien's planet is now inhabited and colonised. When contact is suddenly lost with the colonists, Ripley returns to the planet with a squad of marines, an android (Lance Henriksen), and a company executive (Paul Reiser). Once on the planet, no survivors can be found except for Newt, a little girl who awakens motherly instincts in Ripley just in time for the acid-blooded aliens to attack in what quickly becomes a one-sided battle for sheer survival. Considered by many to be the best of the series, ALIENS is a fast-paced, high-intensity thrill ride that set a new standard for action films and cemented director James Cameron's status as one of Hollywood's leading directors following the success of THE TERMINATOR. Weaver received an Academy Award nomination and became a feminist hero for her strong, sensitive performance as the survivor Ripley, while co-stars Reiser, Henriksen, and Bill Paxton all give career-making performances in this landmark sci-fi extravaganza.

this time its war; best of the series
how do you possibly follow the awesome space opera that ridley scott gifted to us in 79? leave it a few years and then get cameron to gove us not 1 but bloody scores of em. lob in a troop of crack space marines and a bit of corporate conspracy and you have a compelling mix.

whether its the bonding taking place on the spaceship before hand, the drop ship sequence, the initial investigation & the discovery of newt, the agonising progress towards the inevitable carnage, the response and getaway or the stunning climax, its all just so brilliant.

stands up to scores of repeated viewings and the addition of the deleted scenes makes it even better - how could you possibly leave out an invention as awesome as sentry guns?

love this filmi remember seeing it at the cinema in bournemouth , even my wife loved it ! the audience literally cheered at times! this extended edition has has extra scenes which fill some of the gaps. what can i say, a great film, tons of action , loads of scenes , incredible effects, much better than all this CGI they use nowadays.5/5!!!!

great film disappointing DVD
Firstly this review is of this DVD release, hence the 3 stars the film is excellent and is worth 5 stars.

So what is wrong with this release, well I have the Alien Destruction set already which as all the alien / predator films, but on their the 2 versions of aliens (and alien) have been put on one DVD, and 4.5 hours of film on one disc doesn't give a great quality picture - there isn't room. So I bought this 2 disc definitive release, which boasts the `best ever picture quality', I assumed the special edition would therefore be on one disc, but no this is exactly the same as the destruction release, the 2 films are on disc one! Why?

There is a second disc with lots of extras and the steelbook (if you get it) is really cool, but I wanted a near HD experience and this isn't it, I will now have to wait for the blu-ray.
