Customer Reviews
Brillant! Overall is 10/10.
This game is so fun to play, easy to use. Sounds and graphics are excellent. Killzone Liberation Platinum (PSP) is the one of the Top 5 best PSP gaming. I recommended everyone to buy this. This game reminds me of paint-ball shooting game. Well done to Dutch development team.
Something worth playing, at last!
Having spent much of the year playing RPGs, I was a bit nervous about splashing out on a shooter, especially one famous for its difficulty, but Killzone (KZ) may be one of the best games I've ever played. Fans of Cannon Fodder and the old PC classic, Commandos, are in for a treat.
The difficulty level is crushing, even on normal difficulty, so don't expect to run through this on the first day (or even the first week). The combat system is easy to pick up, and there are lots of different enemies to fight - tanks, soldiers, dogs, mechanical spiders, giant robots etc. You can even drive tanks, hovercrafts and dune buggies.
An additional chapter is available for download, and infrastructure/ad-hoc play is supported. If you've mislaid your network password, however, it can be difficult to register for the online Combat Zone. The co-op campaign mode is a great addition, providing you know somebody else with a PSP!
KZ's biggest flaw is the PSP system itself - the location of the analog stick and the shoulder buttons can make prolonged battles cumbersome and even painful (the second boss really grates on your thumbs), but otherwise, this game is a delight! The PSP really needs more challenging games like this.
grim, tactical and hard as nails
You might not believe me when I say that when I think of Killzone: Liberation, my next thought is Gears of War.
Its clearly not the graphics, the console manufacturer or even the viewpoint. In fact its the feeling it envokes in me when I play it.
Make no mistake, KL is hard. Hit-restart-and-stifle-a-loud-cuss-on-public-transport- hard. And just like Gears, this console masterpiece pushes the consoles' hardware as much as it does your patience.
Combat sees you command generic space marines across an impressive, but dull and foreboding industrial wasteland. Popping in and out of cover is the key, and timing that run out into the open is nerve-wracking. Get it wrong and the ruthelss AI will dispatch you in miliseconds with grendaes, butts to the head and scarily slow homing missiles.
With varied environments, a great isometric viewpoint and great weapons however, KL is the perfect lesson on how to port a fracnhise to handheld properly. The gamplay gives you enough of an ariel view to plan your attacks in depth and adds a soild strategic element that many would not have been expecting.
It is however let down by its short campaign and limited online oppurtunities (although this is down to the fanbase rather than the game).
Maybe I'm just not a good enough gamer, but the only thing really bringing this score down is the difficulty. The curve is very steep, the checkpoints limited. Get caught with the wrong weapon set and you'll have to head back to base. I found also that the medium difficulty was often frustrating and the easy difficulty too, well, too easy.
A challenge none the less then, but an essential psp purchase also.
