Amazon.co.uk Review
Disney’s huge hit franchise of the moment never has, and perhaps never will, see the inside of a cinema. But given the millions upon millions of followers across the globe, the DVD release of High School Musical 2 will nonetheless rival the sales of any blockbuster you care to mention.
And why shouldn’t it? Grounded firmly in the family spirit that classic Disney movies are renowned for, High School Musical 2 isn’t the most radical movie you’re ever likely to see, but it’s had few recent rivals where outright fun is concerned. The plot this time sees Troy, Gabriella, Ryan, Chad, Taylor and Sharpay in the midst of organising a talent competition during their school holidays, which proves all the excuse the film needs to bring on the musical entertainment.
Packed in with insanely addictive tunes, and playing very firmly to its fan base, it’s hard not to conclude that High School Musical 2 is a success. What’s more, there’s immense respin potential to the disc, and given the raging success of the first movie, this one too is set to be enjoyed time and time again.
Not jumped on the High School Musical wagon yet? Here’s a perfect place to start. is a fun family movie, and one that sits both as a worthy sequel, and a warm slice of entertainment in its own right. --Jon Foster

FANTASTIC!!!!
I hate to say this but I am 40 and I sat and watched this with my two children aged 9 and 11 when it premiered on Disney channel. My son,9, has watched it so many times that he knows the words to the script and the songs off by heart.
I never thought much to the HSM songs but the story line was great. HSM2's songs are ten times better and a lot more addictive. I have downloaded them to my Ipod and to my phone. 'Bet on it' is my ringtone!!
The story line is still a bit cheesy but it's every kids fantasy to star or have a summer like these lot do. I think it's the best musical that I have seen and it even beats 'Grease' and that's saying something!
Yes I know that I'm sad but you really don't want to miss this!
Enjoy it as the fun film that it's meant to be!
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2-SMASH HIT-GET READY FOR H.S.M.3!!!
The story so far....in H.S.M Gabriella and troy finally get together after an array of songs and great dancing-Sharpay thinks she has a chance with troy and uses brother Ryan as a rug-but decides Gabriella should 'break a leg' and all in this together blasts through our speakers and we all get up and dance!
High School Musical 2 (finally) expands on the friendships and the relationship between Gabriella and troy. Schools out for the summer and the wildcats need jobs to accommodate cars and 'their future'-the ever fearful college! Sharpay and Ryan's parents own a great holiday hangout-'lava springs' and Sharpay is determined to get troy for herself. Sharpay organises for troy to get a job at lava springs whatever the cost-the cost it seems is the recruitment of the wildcats and so the story begins.
There's another musi-cal (best Darbus voice) and Sharpay wants troy to sing with her and after managing to get daddy dearest to arrange for scholarships and all sorts -troy finds himself dining with the Evan's and he's forced to promise Sharpay he'll sing with her. The wildcats can all see a change with Troy since he's jumped up the career ladder at lava springs (with helps from Sharpay-but he doesn't know that) he makes empty promises to Gabriella and the relationship is in jeopardy-resulting in Ryan and Gabriella becoming closer.
Ryan and Sharpay's relationship is at meltdown once she brushes him out of the musical and replaces him with Troy-resulting in the wildcats making Ryan director of their performance-the song between Ryan and Chad is perfect! (I don't' dance)
Gabriella and Troy are determined to make this summer memorable, as Gabriella has never stayed in once place long enough to enjoy it with her friends. The story between them plays throughout the film but regardless of what others have said it isn't over-the-top. It's important. Troy breaks promise after promise and is late to dates and just can't get anything right as he's forgotten about those who are really important and who he is. Troy and Chad's friendship is on the brink as he's started treating his friends as servants and Gabriella is just a memory-Sharpay really thinks she's in with a chance.
Nearer the end-Bolton opens he's eyes to what he should have seen in the beginning- Gabriella quit and he's friends have deserted him just as he did with them and it's finally time to set things straight. After Sharpay's painful screams she confronts troy about why he's quit the musical-Troy's had enough of being dragged about and pushed into rushing his life-Sharpay throws it at him that she's worked her buns off to get him scholarship deals and recognition. He doesn't wanna know.
The musical at the end is amazing-think heaven on stage! Gabriella makes a surprise comeback for the finale and the song 'everyday' is amazing.
The sequel has taken a more serious ground and the story actually has a point to it-don't let others dictate how to live your life-find out who you are and believe in that. The songs are better and longer the dance routines are stronger and overall H.S.M 2 has proved that sequels can succeed. 'You are the music in me' 'I don't dance' 'bet on it' 'all for one' and 'what time is it?' are fantastic! Let it be said Sharpay's songs 'fabulous' and her version of 'music in me' is horrible! Kelsey wrote it for troy and Gabriella for a reason! You'll love this! It's longer and just overall worthy of its popularity from its original film....look out for High School Musical 3-already the cast are getting ready and the original cast are returning for a 3rd installment of the best Disney Channel film ever!!!!
if you liked hsm 1 you will love this one
the high school musical kids are back only this time its summer and oh yess! zac efron has still got his dark hair from hairspray! the songs are a little bit different from the first hsm but not to say worse, it sounds like they have used some kind of electro machine to jazz up their voices and although reading this it may not sound good but believe me it sounds fantastic and just as catchy as ever. troy and sharpay sing together which you know you want to see! and a few unpredictable things happen along the way, this definatly measures up to the first hsm .
