Video Description
Twelve-year-old twins Ai and Yu Hayakawa take a mysterious subway to Wonderland to look for their missing scientist-parents. Wonderland is a hostile place, ruled by the petulant Earl Tyrant and his assorted hench-creatures. Ai and Yu are attacked by monsters and saved first by Lisa, a practitioner of the "Kigen Arts," then repeatedly by the taciturn, gun-totting Kaze. The first episodes are cluttered with characters who appear briefly then vanish. Although Ai, Yu, and Lisa do a lot of traveling, the series doesn't really go anywhere: the filmmakers seem more interested in showcasing the elaborate CG effects at their disposal than in coherent storytelling. The effects are very flashy, but they never meld satisfactorily with the drawn animation. Based on the popular videogame franchise, Unlimited borrows from Matsumoto's Galaxy Express and Miyazawa's Galactic Railroad, but offers none of their mystery and magic.

Synopsis
The vast sci-fi environs of the popular FINAL FANTASY video game serve as the backdrop for this action-packed anime series directed by Mahiro Maeda and produced by GONZO Digimation. The series opens as a mysterious pillar of darkness descends upon Japan, opening a gateway to another dimension and spawning a gigantic two-headed monster that destroys itself in a spectacular fashion. Twelve years later, twin brother and sister Yu and Ai hop on a magical subway that takes them to a fantastical but dangerous realm known as Wonderland, where they hope to solve the mystery of their scientist parents' disappearance on that dreadful day with the help of a kindly sorceress and a brooding gunslinger. Moody and enigmatic with stunning animation, the sci-fi anime is presented in its entirety.

The truth5
im giving this anime full marks because im a die hard final fantasy fan and well anything in the series doesnt deserves anything less in my opinion final fantasy is a beautifle collection. but back to the anime, yes as many of you know it is not the best of animes but it has its cool points too and just so people know the is no season 2 this is the one and only season ever made as it got bad financing in japan hence the cut it so no more was made. My honest ans truthful opinion is buy it if you want to add to you collection but if you expecting very very much from it you might be disappointed. hope this helps :=)Final Fantasy Unlimited - Complete Collection [2001] [DVD]

Dull and Formulaic1
I bought this DVD set on the merits of the Final Fantasy franchise. However this series piggybacks on that reputation, and in my humble opinion, sullies it.

The series starts off ok, but quickly descends into a fairly rigid Power Rangers-esque formula of children go exploring, get attacked by bad guy, cue mysterious black caped hero, who defeats bad guy with one special move. Later in the series, this evolves to have the bad guy reappear in order to be defeated again. I got 4 discs in and just couldn't watch any more. Perhaps if it was watched over a longer period of time (as it would originally have been designed) rather than back to back, it would have been bearable, but as a continuous piece, it was simply irritating.

If you're looking for a few hours of boredom and frustration, this is the product for you.
