Editorial Reviews

CD Description
The team behind the global phenomenon and blockbuster film The Da Vinci Code returns for the highly anticipated Angels and Demons, based upon the best-selling novel by Dan Brown. The soundtrack is composed by Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer and features violin solos by Grammy® Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, who has sold more than 800,000 albums worldwide.

Customer Reviews

Inoffensive but inferior to Da Vinci Code. Beware synths.3
Zimmer takes his score to The Da Vinci Code and mixes in much of the soundworld from Batman Begins: chiefly ultra-low bass and thicker, lower harmonies and percussion. Unfortunately much suffers as a result: there is more that is very obviously synth-based rather than the live-synth sleight-of-hand Zimmer is famed for, and many of the choral passages sound either sampled or sidelined in the mix. This is a shame as he has juxtaposed what was presumably aimed to be an edgier and grittier score with some genuinely beautiful string solos and ensemble passages, although bringing in Joshua Bell was probably uncalled for. Zimmer also continues his habit of skillfully meshing his cues into more seamless suites, which makes for a far more enjoyable CD listening experience than his competitors. In the end, though, this feels like an action remix of the first score (the numerous thematic reprisals and variants are superior to new motifs) with a touch of The Omen added for good measure. Fans of the film will love it, fans of Zimmer will probably be philosophical of their expectations, more general film score fans may flag by the halfway mark and return for the final track's cheap 'Chevaliers De Sangreal' arrangement.

Great Movie, Great Score5
If you have seen the movie you will know how well this score is written.
The solo's by Joshua Bell are brilliant and the lingering ultralow frequencies in the longer passages fill out a vivid picture in sound. If you liked the da-vinci code soundtrack you will like this.
To sum up... this score is epic when exciting and beautiful when calm.
Keep 'em rolling Hans!

Awesome !5
