Manufacturer's Description
The call of duty needs answering once again, as the blockbusting first person shooter series returns to the modern day. A direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you now play new character Sgt Gary "Roach" Sanderson. Your commander is "Soap" from the first game as you join a multinational anti-terrorist squad out to stop Russian ultra nationalists.
Watch your squad grow from inexperienced rookies to veteran warriors |
The story mode features an even more varied series of locales than before, including a snowbound mission that starts with a daredevil mountain climb and ends with a high speed snowmobile chase as you make your escape. With other levels set in Afghanistan, Rio de Janeiro and even underwater this has more action than a dozen Hollywood blockbusters.
But that's just the single player mode - the multiplayer is even more ground-breaking than before, with new co-op options and even more rewards and perks for competitive play.

After working on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for EA, Infinity Ward's first game as their own company was fellow World War II title Call of Duty. Since then the California company has never had time to do anything else, as the ongoing series has become one of the best-selling of all time.

Worth the wait
I picked this up last night at midnight from the place i work (game) and have been playing it ever since , it is outstanding. Graphically it is on another level to nearly all games out at that monent. It looks great on an HD tv but m sure it would look excellent on a normal tv. The single player took nearly six hours for me to complete which is quite short, it does not disapoint being all action from start to finish in a very nice variety of locations. There is a point in the story which is simply put the gaming moment of this year for me ( i know that makes no sense but when you arrive at it you will know). The only flaw is there is no Co-op story mode but that is made fine by the actual Spec-ops mode which is co-op and has a variety of missions, which are so good to play with a friend. I tried firing up the multiplayer earlier on this morning and already theres a load of people playing it and with good reason its great also i would say its better than in the original because of all the small difference that have been made, they add up to something big i feel.
Overall if you own a 360 you must buy this and experience the best game of the year.
An absolute masterpeice. . .
I've had this game for a couple of days now and if you wondering whether to buy this or not, the simple answer is, yes. One might have thought with all the press attention and hype surrounding this new title that the game could never possibly live up to expectations, but it most certainly does, and even exceeds expectations in certain areas.
First off, single player. Now, being honest the campaign isn't massily long, if your playing on regualar difficulty, expect to play for around 4-6 hours, however, ramp it up to veteran difficulty and you can make that 20+ (serioulsy, its hard!) But I think that the campain can be summed up best by the phrase "short and sweet", the plot is very well laid out and the cinematics are truly outstanding. There is also no lack of variety in this game either, not to spoil the plot, but you'll find yourself fightly in vastly different settings throughout the whole campaign which really does give the campaign an epic feeling. Overall the single player is well rounded and truly an astonashingly cinematic experience which you cannot afford to miss.
Now, to what most people buy COD for, the multiplayer. If you've played COD4, then you will instantly fell right at home with MW2. However, this doesn't mean it hasn't changed. The massive new list of guns, perks, kilstreaks, unlockables will have you playing for years. In all my years of gaming I have never played a more well rounded online multiplayer experience. The multiplayer is genuinly worth the £.. alone.
Also thrown into the mix is spec ops mode, which sees you take on a variety of different missions in 2-player co-op (Splitcreen/online) which range from holding down positions against waves of oncoming enemies to snomobile races which are absolutely hilarious! This is a great addition to the game just as Nazi zombies was to CODW@W - but better with more variety.
Overall, I serioulsy cannot fault this game. The single player experience is epic and the multiplayer is unrivalled by anything on the market, and with spec ops throw into the mix, this is an absolute MUST BUY.
Short, but sweet - the best game to ever grace my Xbox
In a word: "wow".
I was cautious playing this game, with so much hype surrounding it. But all the hype is deserved, it really is.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is just FUN! It's like they took everything that was annoying about games, threw it away, and created the best game to grace the Xbox 360. Really, I'm not hyperbolic, this is the best game I've played on the Xbox 360.
The cinematic feeling as you are swept through this game is immense. Never before have I shrieked with joy like I did when I played this game. Where do I start? Shooting from helicopters, snipering from a snowy ridge, dodging falling helicopters, blowing up helicopters... I could go on, but I really don't want to spoil the unadulterated joy of this game unfolding. Okay, one more point: guiding missiles to destroy your enemies nearby, and seeing the buildings explode in your point of view is immense... and led to that shrieking I mentioned above.
What I adore about this game is the do away with what annoys me about so many other games. I hate failing at something, then having to do 10 minutes again. Then maybe fail again, and do it again. It's tedious repeating stuff over and over. But not with COD: MW2. Save points are frequent, so you don't end up re-doing stuff and you just get on with the game picking up almost where you left off!
I also like you don't have to faff around with health packs and ammo. How many times have you been in a game, shot someone, see their gun but you can't pick it up. That's madness. But not in COD: MW2. You just pull back to cover to recover, and if you run out of ammo just pick up a gun from anyone you've killed nearby. Let the gameplay continue, not having to worry about stupid gameplay mechanics!
The game is quite short, and I imagine some may complain about this. But you have to realise: other games are made longer by their mechanics that make you play bits over and over again. So I much prefer COD: MW2, where the gameplay is short and sweet and not extended by tedious replay.
Amazingly, for such a scripted game, it doesn't feel scripted. It isn't like "press a button, the things come out to destroy you" that you get with so many FPS. With this game they sweep you along so quickly, you don't realise it's scripted. Even down to the linear levels which are part of a game like this, you're so busy running to your next point, caught up in the action, that you don't notice you're being guided by the level design. It's just so immersive.
And the AI, oh the AI. Amazing, truly amazing. In close quarter combat, it is so unpredictable. Even to the point where if you die, and repeat that part, the other characters act quite differently every time.
So do I have any complaints? Well no, none at all. One grumble is they need different audio level controls, so I can raise the voice levels compared to the other sounds -- it's sometimes hard to hear orders. The other is that the story was sometimes lost on me, as so much was going on. Also as a suggestion, it'd be nice if your decisions had ramifications. There's a scene where you go through the airport shooting people, in the widely publicised scene which actually is the weakest part of the game. But it has no ramifications. In the next game I'd like to see "shoot these people, or a school blows up" - real through provoking decision making where your choices have consequences, as in this game they don't.
But as you can see, my grumbles are minor. My praise for this game is immense. It blows always all the tired, tedious elements of other games and replaces them with shear, unadulterated, fun gameplay.
I recommend this game wholeheartedly, and I haven't even played multi player yet!
