Customer Reviews
Accurate, detailed, and graphically appealing.
Landranger 0031 (Barra and vicinity) is a well-detailed bit of cartography, covering the southern Outer Hebrides Islands from South Uist to Berneray, and including the islands of Barra, Eriskay, Vatersay, Mingulay, Sandray, and others. Names are provided both in English and native Gaelic spellings.
Topographical features such as hills (complete with full contour lines!), dunes, lakelets, channels, and watercourses are clearly labeled and keyed, as are man-made additions including castles, airfields, ferry routes, burial grounds, cairns, hotels and roads. The roads are well distinguished by their degrees of improvement-- you'll not find yourself driving down an unimproved farm lane unless you intended to do so.
The tidal gradients are clearly indicated; that is, two separate coastlines are drawn for high and low tides. This feature gives a very clear idea of which coasts are cliffs, and which are gradual beaches.
The labels are all easily read, even in low-light conditions. The map has detail of a remarkable degree. Its graphics are so sharp and appealing that at the conclusion of my travel, I had it mounted and framed. It now very handsomely fills a three-foot-square area of a wall in my office.
Detail, accuracy, graphic appeal, and utility all get top marks in the Landranger 0031 map of Barra and vicinity.
