Customer Reviews
A Borders walker's view
This book disappointed me. Whilst the walks are for the most part well chosen, the accompanying maps show no contour information (for the sake of visual clarity?) and in one case, don't even indicate the direction of travel. The changing nature of roads , tracks or paths is indicated on the maps but not explained by a legend.
The author would have done better to relate features and waypoints to a short numbered system, partly to facilitate preparation of a waycard and to tie in the walk instructions to points on the map. Without these, the verbal reference to features on the walk, with no corresponding indication on the map, mean that this book is unsuitable for the novice, and oversimplistic for the experienced, even though some of the walks included are quite challenging. Indeed, the textual descriptions of the features or history of the chosen walks are scant indeed. In addition, there is no indication as to likely duration, and proximity to and brief directions from identifiable towns are also absent. Potentially a great guide but could have done a lot better. There are more useful publications around.
