There is a marked decline in competitive balance and football's biggest consumer, TV, is dominating demand, with the traditional fan being pushed out. John Samuels is Emeritus Professor of Business Finance at the University of Birmingham. During his academic career he has been Head of the Business School and Pro-Vice Chancellor as well as Dean of the Faculty and has taught in many countries and institutions around the world. He has written books on the subjects of company finance, accounting, mergers and take-overs. A football fan all his life, The Beautiful Game is Over is his first book about football.
