Authors Nick Davidson and Shaun Hunt are going through a mid-life crisis as far as football is concerned. Now they've reached early middle-age, they are wondering what has happened to the beautiful game. Where have all the muddy pitches gone? They wallow in nostalgia for 3pm Saturday kick-offs and cup upsets. They rant against inflated egos, spiralling salaries and satellite TVs - and they wonder about men in tights and gloves. Nick Davidson is also the author of Team Shirts to Ticket Stubs published by Watford Football Club.

Review
"Poignant and thought-provoking book... it strikes just the right tone throughout, somewhere between gentle nostalgia and constructive criticism; has many laugh-out-loud moments yet poses some serious questions..." Jon Crampin, FourFourTwo magazine Yet this is not some hectoring tome lusting after times past, more a joyous romp through the features of the game which inspired a lifelong devotion in the thirty something authors. As such it will provide an ideal Christmas present for any fan over 30, allowing them to while away the festive period in the fuzzy haze of nostalgia. myeducatedleftfoot.com
About the Author
The authors Nick and Shaun met at Warwick University, where they occasionally studied History. Most of their time was spent playing football and lounging about reading the Daily Mirror. Nick works as a freelance graphic designer (he designed the cover artwork for Modern Football is Rubbish). Nick studied History and Politics at Warwick University, he then completed an MA in Sociology of Sport at Leicester University's Centre for Research into Sport and Society. This is Nick's second book. In 2002, he wrote Team Shirts to Ticket Stubs: A Visual History of Watford Football Club 1977-2002 which was published by Watford Football Club. Nick is a lifelong Watford fan and, along with Shaun, plays five-a-side football every Wednesday night. Chasing 18-year-old kids around the football pitch makes him feel very old. Shaun works as a manager for McDonalds. Nick and Shaun played in the same football team at university, it took them several months to realise they were actually on the same degree course. Born and raised in Cornwall, supporting Liverpool was the obvious choice. He is now the assistant manager of Cadbury Athletic under-10s. He plays football for the Spleen Team every Wednesday alongside Nick.
Customer Reviews
It is rubbish...modern football that is
Well done boys, you've said just about everything that most fans have felt for over a decade now.....modern football sucks, to coin a horrible American phrase. The game just takes, takes, takes, from its fans and the players hardlty ever feel much for any club only the size of the pay cheques....or bank transfers I suppose they are now.
I say stuff the WAGS, the highlighted hair ,the perma tan, all the flash and lets get back to reality...us fans have had enough y'know. Look at the crowds for matches already this season, they are down...its not the credit crunch ..its disillusionment.
Modern football is rubbish sets an angry and humorous look at this new world and how bad it is, those of you out there in need of a few good belly laughs and a reality check in words...go get it NOW ! you will not be disappointed.
"Angry of Norrfolk"...."Come on you Yellows"
Modern football might be rubbish but this book isn't
'Modern Football is Rubbish' is laugh out loud funny, but it is also poignant and thought-provoking. This book will evoke childhood memories for most football fans and have them shouting 'I remember that!', whilst at the same time getting them thinking about what is so right, and what has gone so wrong, with football today.
It would have been easy for the writers to produce another throw-away football giftbook or a nostalgia-trip that would appeal to only one club's fans, but instead they've come up with something much better and a unique guide to the Beautiful Game.
Wish I was young again
A fantastic book. Cleverly written and intelligent. This book has been written by real football fans who have experienced the same joy and incredible pain that many of us have watching and playing the beautiful game. How I long to be twenty years younger and experiencing the same things again. You can almost smell the wintergreen and muddy boots and the piss soaked terraces on the pages of this book. Have bought loads of copies for friends, who have phoned me straight away to reminisce about the topics explored. Just plain football gold.
