Synopsis
Offers a full examination and description of all the toxic chemical and microbiological agents, either tested, manufactured or used since 1914. This book identifies the major research, testing and manufacturing plants worldwide. It details all verifiable uses of CBW since 1914 and examines the rationale behind such operations.

Unreliable
McCamley incorrectly states that Fritz Haber was at the front celebrating the successful use of gas at Ypres when his first wife, Clara, shot herself. He wasn't; he was back home. He uncritically repeats loose gossip about his relationship with his second wife during Clara's lifetime, and states (correctly)that Haber did not attend Clara's funeral, but without mentioning that he had asked for leave from his military duties to do so and been refused.
McCamley also alleges that fear of mustard gas was what persuaded the battleship Graf Spee to surrender at the Battle of the River Plate; in fact, it was crippling internal shell damage, including disabling of the fuel and water purification systems.
Now I'm no expert on military history, but for that very reason it follows that if I can find such gross errors and misrepresentations in the areas that I do happen to know something about, why should I trust him regarding anything else? And if I can't trust this book, what value is it?
