Brick dust
Having read the review by Nic Howden I was really looking forward to receiving my copy of this book. However, it really doesn't do what I wanted. I can't imagine how you could hope to use it as a project reference book. It looks attractive, but I wanted a book that would really help me. Don't bother buying it new - mine will be on sale secondhand through the Amazon marketplace. Or better still save your money and buy a couple of issues of Build It magazine - they'll be as much use - and cost half as much.
Great Expectations Realised
I have always wanted to design and build my own home and this is a great book that helped and inspired me no end. I think the review by Nic Howden was spot on, I would recommend this book wholeheartedly to anybody thinking of, or actually building their own home.
Brick by brick
Painstakingly assembled by Build It Editor Katherine Monk, Building Your Own Home provides a step by step guide to creating that unique country or urban 'pile' in the face of all the glum, indentikit housing solutions perpetrated by the industry. From finding a site to sourcing materials, from the walls and roof through to interior design flourishes, this tome can serve both as an inspiration and a project reference book.
