The internal basket spins and the water expelled. The spinner refrains from moving along the countertop when in use thanks to the non-slip ring on the base.

Manufacturer's Description
For fun and easy salad preparation, try the OXO GOOD GRIPS Salad Spinner. Simply press the soft, non-slip knob to start the basket spinning. Easy, one-handed operation makes this Spinner a pleasure to use, and a built-in brake stops the Salad Spinner so you can unload it. A non-slip ring keeps the bowl steady on the countertop, and the basket and bowl can be used separately

SUPER Salad Spinner with non-slip base5
Salad spinners pretty much work on the same principle - an external container with an internal basket which spins, expelling the excess water you can then tip away.

However, some are better than others!
I have upgraded my handle turning, two hands required, bright pink spinner to this one, which arrived, yesterday!

What a difference ....

Simply place the cut vegetables, salad leaves and herbs into the basket, leaving some central space for the lid-based `plunger' knob, pop on the lid and push!
No effort required - one hand operation and this particular model is further enhanced by the non-slip base.........so it doesn't shuffle along the work-surface!
Efficient built-in brake stops the salad spinner for unloading.
Dishwasher safe - on the top rack, but I find this item easy to clean, by hand.
Basket and bowl can be used separately.
Easy to store.

Boxed with full instructions.

Available in two sizes:-

`Small', approx overall dimensions H 18 cm x Dia 25 cm
which should be adequate for two, in my opinion, and `Large', if preparing for more.

the salad spins and the spinner stands5
I have owned my oxo - good grips spinner for a few years now (bought it in a littke kitchen shop in Madagascar - it was their only one and they received it by mistake) and I think it is the best. (I have had a few spinners in my day)
1. it is easy to use- you pump on the button and it works (anyone every have one of those spinners that you have to spin in the air by a cord? horrible) much easier to use than a cord spinner or a lever/knob spinner -where you have to rotate the lever/knob around
2. it stays put while it spins- others seem to dance around the counter, but this one has a little rubber traction ring on the bowl- lending it a "good grip"
3.nice brake, to stop the spin and to keep the "spin button" collapsed down for storage
4. easy to store- I sandwhich between my other bowls and the lid is to the side
5. very easy to clean

Excellent Product5
Neat little spinner. The plus points for me are:
It's dishwasher-proof. I refuse to buy any kitchen aid that's not. (Anybody know where I can get a dishwasher-proof oil-sprayer?)
It's compact. Just the right size for two people. Well, us two anyway.
It looks good.
It works well. Push the central plunger and you get a good old spin. No clutch-slip. The brake works well.
One small criticism, not worth dropping a whole star, is that the plunger-spin mechanism, built into the lid, pushes down into the bowl. You have to leave a gap in the centre of the bowl to make room for it.
