Noura says: Every bellydancer should know who Om Kolthoum is and the impact that she had on the Arab world. Her music is romantic and deeply passionate. Recordings of her voice are not appropriate to dance to, any Egyptians in the audience would probably be quite upset if you did. However, the songs that she sang are often rearranged for dancers, and this CD by Hossam Ramzy is one example.
It contains two of her most famous tunes; "Enta Omri", which means "You are my life" and "Ana Fintizarak" translated as "While waiting for your return".
While there are plenty of CDs of Egyptian music that feature Om Kolthoum songs, it is good to have a whole CD of it together, as it really gives you a feel of the style and enables you to start to recognise the tunes.

Excellent performance CD
Om Kolthoum was, and still is, the most famous, important and best-loved singer all over the Arab world. This CD contains a selection of some of her best known songs all beautifully recorded and arranged. It makes both a wonderful CD for performance and is an essential teaching/beginners CD for those looking for an introduction into Om Kolthoum's music. The liner notes are very useful - there's a small biography and for each song there are some lyric translation notes which are invaluable as of course understanding of the lyrics is essential for getting the mood and feel of the music across correctly in choreographies. Overall, I found this is to be a fantastic CD packed full of wonderful performance music and so is great value for money. Highly recommended!
