Product Description

This is an irresistible guide to combining old and new in your home with confidence and style. Katherine Sorrell shows how to add interest with unexpected or individual pieces - a portrait that was a lucky junk-shop find, pieces of 1960s glass from a market stall, a gilt-framed mirror that belonged to your grandmother. Spotting a gem at auction or a carboot sale is very satisfying, and lots of fun. Even better, you won't see it anywhere else - unlike items bought on the high street. The main part of the book, "Spaces", takes you through every room in the house, showing how to combine old and contemporary objects to create a home that is entirely original, as well as comfortable, practical and stylish.

Editorial Reviews

Review
New to paperback, this smart volume shows the art of creating a home where old and new live happily side by side. "Spaces" takes you through ever room in the house, showing you how to combine objects in a practical and stylish way. "Getting it right" provides hints and advice, while "The elements" looks at the main ingredients of this style , from battered leather sofa's to 1950's pressed glass bowls. Forget old fashioned notions of good taste and approach to home decor with adventure. --Sunday Mail

Customer Reviews

Small and interesting3
Photographic examples of how to mix modernised backdrops with vintage and antique pieces. Many of the items of furniture are older but probably very expensive as most of the pictured pieces are designer ones ie Arne Jacobson and Robin Day. Not that easy to copy without a fat cheque book.
