Customer Reviews

Very good, pity it excludes younger children4
This is a great film, beautifully imagined and animated. It would have been good to see the human characters rendered in the same way as the fantastic scenery, but the hand drawn animation does work well.

It is a pity that the film contains such graphic violence as I'm sure my 9 year old would have loved it.

Over all though recommended viewing - well worth a rental.

Wow, no one has reviewed this?5
I checked this out on here since I was curious what other people had though of it. I've owned this myself for months and I have to say I consider it a top drawer film. The combination of animated characters and CG works great, with only one or two places I can think of where they didn't quite mesh. The story has a great deal of depth, and the charaters are wonderfully developed with some interesting twists. I'd definitely recommend getting this.

Why did it receive a 15 rating?4
I bought this movie as I am back into business with Animes and relied on the reviews that were written about this movie. First of all I have to say that it is a beautifully made movie. The charaters are nicely chosen, beautifully drawn and they act very well together accompanied by one the nicest sound tracks ever made for an anime movie. The CGI animations are fanatasic and still somewhere on the high ranks with Final Fantasy Advent Children which is just slightly better in my point of view as it is a little younger than Sky Blue.
BUT: (That's unfortunately a big one which gave it a 4 star ranking at the end) There is a big lack of the violence in the movie. I invited a friend of mine watching it with me because the back said "contains moderate bloody violence". After I saw movies such as Ghost in the Shell (1995), Akira and Vampire Hunter D (there are more to follow) which all received as well an 15 rating we were kind of bored and actually disappointed of the lack of violence and blood in the movie as we made the mistake watching "Ghost in the Shell" first. Please don't get me wrong and think I am blood thirsty girl who enjoyes people getting shot or fallen appart while leaving a long trail of blood behind them. I am as well a video gamer and therefore (and because of aboved mentioned movies) I have a certain standard of violence that needs to justify a 15 cert. Sky Blue simply doesn't deserve it to be put in the same category which lists movies such as "Jin-Roh" or even "Read or Die". You actually see more violence on regular TV in the evening. I would actually watch it with my a 12 year child as I think that our children are already used to more violence as we think they are. I think I actually saw more violence in Appleseed which received a 12 cert.
Still, I don't regret buying it and I am sure to watch it again in the upcoming days.
