CD Description
The updated but reverent take on classic 1960s R&B providedby Eli "Paperboy" Reed & the True Loves is a blast from thepast for a new generation. Though only in their 20s, Reed and his band (complete with a full horn section) crank up an energy on ROLL WITH YOU that summons the spirits of Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, and other raw soul legendsof a bygone era. Tunes like "Stake Your Claim" and "The Satisfier" are rendered with enough muscle to prove that this crew is no dusty museum piece. Instead, ROLL WITH YOU pulses and surges with gospel-tinged fervor, hard funk grooves, andget-up-and-dance urgency. Slower numbers like "Am I WastingMy Time" show they can tug the heartstrings, too.

Record of the year
I have to disagree wholeheartedly with some of the other reviews on here, unlike a lot of the new wave 'soul' acts seemingly sprouting from every corner of the world so far this year, Eli Reed seems to have got it right. Rather than sounding like he's only doing a soul record because his record company thought it might be a good idea, he seems to have a genuine love of the genre and the treatment is absolutely classic 60's soul.
Had he been around about 40 years ago he would not have found himself out of place on the Stax label next to Otis, Sam and Dave, Wilson Picket etc. Yes - his voice and the overall sound isn't anything ground breaking, but the paperboy can definitely deliver (you see what I did there?), he growls, howls and yelps with the best of them...and the brass section is phenomenal!
I've been predicting a 'proper soul' come back for some years now, and at last here's a fellah who might just pull it off. If you like your music funky, bursting with passion and with more than a little authenticity then buy this record! Please do it now!
Personally - I'll also be keeping an ear out for any live shows this side of the pond, I've got a feeling they're going to be something pretty special!
Throwback to the 60's
I have not come across this artist before but this album does make you think back to the 60's sounds, which is the idea. This band are very influenced by the soul sounds of the 60's and 70's, with a definite motown feel to many of the tracks. If you like soul and sounds of that era, this is definitely the album for you. The tracks 'It's Easier' and I'll Roll with you' have a very 'Jimmy Cliff' feel to them (Many Rivers to Cross'). No two ways about it this is great for parties or for livening up any event, particularly a 60's event. It is great to see new artists re-inventing the older styles. This is a very good band, with some excellent musicians.
Best album for a long while
Excellent CD.
The album is a blend of Soul R&B and 60's music. After the first play is was good but then it grows on you very quickly. I was not disappointed about this album as it has a laid back style that is really easy to make numerous listening without as there is new to find on repeat playing.
Buy it. It is well worth the money.
