Synopsis
Prepare to be spooked in this spine-tingling new story from the master of horror, Darren Shan! "The boys and girls in the graveyard were shouting, but Koyasan no longer heard them. The world had become a wide, grey void. She could hear deep rasping sounds, the breath of creatures which had been human once, but weren't any more..." All of the children like to play in the graveyard, except Koyasan, who is too afraid to cross the bridge to play. But when her sister's soul is stolen, she must find the courage to enter a realm of evil, where she knows the spirits are waiting...

An atmospheric page-turner
As a teacher, I read this book to my class following World Book Day 2006. I was worried the subject matter might be a bit scary for the age group (9-10 year olds) but it proved to be their favourite book I've read them all year. They were completely riveted and were sorry when the book was finished. I enjoyed it too. Could be used as a stimulus for writing too.

A book to leave you smiling
Unlike other books by this author, this book has a happy ending. If you're a parent and your son or daughter liked The Saga of Darren Shan, but wasn't sure weather or not his other series The Demonata was suitable. This book would be perfect for you and your whole family. The book is written simply for younger readers to comprehend, but it's for kids of any age and leaves you with a smile after reading it.
Darren Shan tells of a girl named Koyasan who has to cross the river into a graveyard and save her younger sister, except for one thing. She is horrified at even the idea of going into the graveyard where ghosts come out of at night. Along the way we meet some interesting ghosts and each one is one more step to rescueing her sister.
