AGELESS DAME SHIRLEY
There comes a time when a Dame has the right to rest and forget the world! Not only because she has earned a rest, but mostly because she has nothing to offer!!! With Dame Shirley Bassey, The Party Has Just Started could be the name of this FABULOUS! album... Perfect new mixes and recordings of her greatest hits, with an edge of timeless modernity. Thank You, Dame Shirley, for everything, and for showing us that there's still beauty, class and style, in your timeless renditions of these songs!
Shirley's party has started!!
Based on the bond-esque Living Tree and samples already available on-line and other tracks played on the radio this is going to be a great album. The title says it all and the party has started for all of Dame Shirley's fans, new and old. She really puts her own stamp on tracks like "I Will Survive" which is as far removed from the Gloria Gaynor version as you could imagine. Remixes of Where Is The Love and Big Spender take them into the 21st century and Cagedbaby's remix of This Is My Life is as cool as ice!. And who could forget Shirley's version of Get The Party Started from the M&S TV adverts?. It's going to be a great party! Don't miss out!
Old but new big sound
She is a Dame! The diva was made a Dame in the 1999 New Year's honours list (the BBC report is still on their website.) Using that title is something her generation for serious musicians do - compare Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth. They are recognised for their contribution so why not use the title to celebrate a milestone in her career.
More importantly, Dame Shirley still has a big sound and humour in her delivery. (Listen for the slight giggle in the "kiss my **** " line of "Get The Party Started".) The set list on the CD fits together well and is a great selection of standards across the generations: fitting for a celebration of a career that has spanned so many years.
Time to join the party!
