CD Description
Something of a landmark album in the world of hip-hop, FUNCRUSHER PLUS opened the floodgates for edgy experimentation in rap in the 1990s and 2000s. Light years away from both Dr.Dre's bouncy West Coast g-funk and the East Coast hardcore of Biggie Smalls, Company Flow made a fiercely independent statement with their tense, futuristic sound. On one hand, the music is minimal: songs are built around bare-bones beats, and ominously pulsing two-note synths loops. At the same time, MCs El-P and Bigg Jus spit amazingly dense, intricate rhymes that sound like nothing in mainstream rap.
Overall, the music is aggressive and intense, with nary a hook to be found (fat chance finding a singable R&B crossover here). And CoFlo's forward-thinking ethos is lent additional credibility via its often political themes and the reclamation of the genre as a rebellious, street-level art form. FUNCRUSHER PLUS had a direct impact on the aesthetic of labels like Anticon and Nature Sounds and rappers like MF Doom and Aesop Rock, and its influence continues--and will continue--to be felt in the underground scene. While casual hip-hop fans may not immediately take to this record, it's a must-have for the headphones/backpack set as well as any fan of adventurous music.

monster
Possibly the least commercial rap album ever, Funcrusher literally slams you around the room on first listen and still has the power to stun after your tenth. i played to a dr. dre fan when i bought it and he could only listen to 1 minute before concluding that i was a bit heavy for him. be warned this album is very uneasy listening and is up there with dr octagon and scaramanga as the best albums to ever come out the hip hop underground
Classic
Beleive me when I say you need this album. Probably my all time favourite album... its just that good. A landmark and truely original underground album. Its dark, raw and down tempo, funky and jazzy in places. Everything about this album is dope (even the cover art). El-P and Big Juss are excellent emcees (check out El-P on "Last Good Sleep). Other standout tracks include "8 Steps To Perfection", "Vital Nerve" and the "The Fire In Which You Burn" by the Indelable MCs (Co Flow, Juggaknots & J-Treds). Basically, go and buy this now.
Inspirational hip-hop, dark and unlike anything else
Company Flow have a really different sound, with great production and fantastic emcees. A friend recommended Funcrusher and he said it was one fo the best records he owns. He was right. CoFlo pirde themselves on their independent sound, which is really strong on the record. This isn't like your normal big label hip-hop, it's dark, sometimes heavy, the loops and beats are inspired and they rhymes are ranging from regular emcee ego stuff (but with more style) to intense brooding commentary. I love it.
