Amazon.co.uk Review
"For your listening pleasure", Mr Knuckles informs us, "I've put together a program that I think chronicles two very important periods in Dance Music." Note the capital letters. Coming from the Godfather of House, these words should get anybody with an interest in the history of the genre going, while the music itself will do it for everybody else. CD 1 is Chicago circa 1982--all hail the birth of house music. This is when disco's strings lost out to a battle of supremacy against the driving bongo rhythms, pared down vocals and staccato chord sequences house-heads know and love. CD 2 meanwhile, chronicles Frankie's return to New York a decade later and illustrates what 10 years can do to a sound. This is more recognisable stuff (although still not the "classics" you night expect)--the sound of early Ministry of Sound compilations. What we used to know as "garage", the pure uplifting, vocal house comes courtesy of the likes of Soul II Soul and Lisa Stansfield--remixed beyond all recognition. By keeping the selection truly "underground", Knuckles avoids the "classics" compilation problem of presenting a tired, heard-it-all-before anthology. But you know that what you're listening to is history in the making. --Ruby Shepheard

Party Till You Drop5
What more can be said about Frankie Knuckles. Growing up in Chicago during the (radio station) WBMX era, Frankie's was a household name. This cd set further demonstrates how that was possible. Not only was the sequencing of the songs brilliant but the mixing was right on -- especially on Disc One (where he has the unenviable task of beat matching disco records: that usually involves live instruments). Old School Househeads will really enjoy this double set!

Well, what did you expect from the Godfather of House?5
This is a brilliant double album that covers two important periods in the history of house music. The early days (circa. 1980) with the tracks that influenced and led to house as we know it. The second is a collection of early house from 1990ish. Some tracks you will know, others you won't, but they are all good.

This album is an education for anyone who is prepared to give it a chance.

A brilliant album without a bad track.

6 stars to Frankie!
