Legendary
This is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. I had never quite got into late 70's Soul music, but after this I was sold. Kenny Dope has pulled out all the stops here and put together a collection of music that just clean blows you away. I could sit here and tell you the best tracks on the album, but that fact is they are all exceptional.
You can listen to the tracks unmixed, but the mix itself is an absolute joy. Many DJ's can sometimes grandstand at the expense of a good tune - DJ Shadow for one - but Kenny Dope doesn't make this mistake. His mix is imaginative, and some of it is just downright cheeky, but he never lets the tempo or rythmn drop for a second.
Even if you think you don't like funk or soul, get this anyway - you will not regret it for a moment. Every person I have played it to has wanted or gone out and bought a copy.
Second only to sex! This is a most magical album!
Ever wondered why, when you have such a large cd-collection, you somehow can't decide what to listen to? Well, listen up, this is for you! After many years in the dance world, and a need to chill out and listen to my heart, i decided on a somewhat mellower direction for my musical tastes. This compilation not only satisfied my needs but put the smile back on my face for that morning rush to work.
It is a phenomonal piece of craftsmanship. Kenny Dope creates a magical set of emotional music for the soul. With the addition of a little bit of scratching here and there the end result is a menagerie of fine grooves, quality vocal tunes and something to make your day sparkle. The fact that the other two cd's contain the un-mixed tracks is a bonus. Believe me, you will be singing a lot of the tunes for many days to come.
Think summer, winter, rain or shine but whatever, think of a smile on your face, whether driving through rush hour traffic or stretching on a beach. I cannot recommend this album much more highly!!
Buy it and you will not be disappointed!
So much music in one package - great!
As usual with this record label, the first thing you appreciate is the quality packaging. Each disc (one mixed & two unmixed)is held in its own individual fold-out sleeve which in turn fits into a sturdy box, already I love it! The track selection itself is perfection, an eclectic mix ranging from the soothing yet funky strings of the Love unlimited orchestra and MFSB to the, guaranteed to move your feet, disco orientated Melba Moore. The time flys by listening to this compilation with every track a must listen, there's absolutly no filler. The inclusion of the mixed and unmixed tracks gives the added fascination of hearing just how an expect DJ like Kenny Dope uses the material with such skill. Finally, best tracks: Herbie Hancock - Stars in your eyes, and Melba Moore - standing right here. Both in their full legth glory, buy it for these alone!
