Sublime Soul, substandard remastering
What a shame that this sublime album has received such a poor transfer from Abbey Road Studios. Recordings originally released on the Beverly Glen label were renowned for the delicious attention detail of the arrangements and production: Anita Baker's "Songstress' and Bobby Womack's 'Poet' Trilogy being prime examples. Sadly the remastering process uses an LP that is in poor condition and certainly not worthy of transcription - hear tracks 2 or 5 for the poorly disgused scratches and pops on the original source LP. Elsewhere the sound lacks the crispness and depth that would no-doubt be evident on the original master tapes from the Patrick Moten/Otis Williams production partnership.

This long sought after release has been a wasted opportunity by EMI. Though obviously without any alternative issues available and given the sheer quality of tracks like 'What About My Love', 'I'm So Proud' and the title track this must remain an essential purchase for Soul fans and worth the modest asking price.
