Customer Reviews
Its Jazzy Jazzy, His Name Is Jeff
Ok this album has been a very long time coming on two paths. Firstly its 5 years since Jeff's last producer album The Magnificent which is a solid buy itself. Secondly Hip-Hop has been waiting for an album like this in recent years.
This is a one of a kind album, filled with quality soul and pure Hip-Hop produced tracks with some legendary and not so well known MC's and vocalists on here.
Fave tracks include Practice with J-Live and My Soul Ain't For Sale featuring Raheem. This album has it all and is the perfect album to put on at one of them summer BBQ parties you knwo you are planning.
slept on big time...
Been listening to this album for some time now and it grows on me every time, i always find another song i'm like, wow, this track is ill. I remember I read a review in one of the hip-hop magazines can't remember which one but they gave it like a rating of 3.5 which does not obvioulsy make any sense coz this album is serious. Let me try and break it down;
Beats: mellow with a smooth overtone - the beats are just so cool and chilled out its unreal, kinda puts you in the feel good sort of mood. You can tell by listening to this album that JJ is a real DJ coz the mixing is fine tuned to say the least, the sound of all the tracks is on the same level and the tempo is so perfect on all the beats.
Features: This is what impressed me the most, dont know how JJ did it but I can honestly say that each beat was hand picked for the right person perfectly. As I said the beats are mellow but you can tell that DJ JJ moulds them quite perfectly for the right people, you got that tracks with Method Man 'Hold it down' and the tempo is little bit different from lets say 'My souls not for sale' ft Raheem D. The tracks with Meth compliments his style and so does the track with Jean Grae 'Supa Jean', you couldnt see anyone else spitting on that track. Then you got 'Come on' with Dave Ghetto which just sounds right.
As i said, this is where this album excels, the way the beats are suited for the right people, perfect match through out the whole album and you dont usually get this with albums like this, you have too many people spitting on beats that dont suit em etc. Also, the features themselves definitely shine in their own right, cant think of anyone who didnt come correct.
Music: well, this is looking at the beat, the artist, the sample used it any, the feel of the song. Well, you only gotta listen to tracks like 'all i know', 'the definition' and the tracks I mentioned above. This album is a classic.
All is all, its a shame music like this or artist like this dont get the commercial success they deserve coz I think DJ JJ came correct with this one, all the way through, the album is definitely a classic.
Listen to it and you will see what I mean. If you like hip-hop music, gauranteed you will not hate this and you can quote me on this, you will definitely like a lot of the songs on the album if not all of em. Also this is an album you can play anywhere, at a BBQ in your car with your mom or when chillin with your boys or your boo.
Only weak point about this album i realised is the first few tracks, they definitely dont do the rest of the album any justice and you can sort of see why this album is overlooked. Besides that, once the week tracks have gone past, sit down and enjoy. So coz of that, i take back my 5stars and give it 4stars instead.
Respect DJ JJ.
