Customer Reviews
Not what it says on the tin
Oh dear - not what I was expecting at all given the earlier reviews. I so wanted to enjoy this given the pedigree of some of those involved, but it's pretty poor. The main problem is the weakness of the material - hardly anything grabs you on a first listen - think filler tracks on mid-eighties Shakatak albums with some 'Strictly Come dancing' horns and you're about there. The reggae track 'On my mind' is truly appalling - meandering, gutless and pointless. 'Time will tell' is so wet it would embarrass the 'Lighthouse Family'. Nobody minds banal lyrics when they are allied to a great groove - but when the music is weak the result is not encouraging. If you are looking for an 'Incognito' or 'Reel People' experience then avoid this. It is jazz/funk/soul lite - the sort of music they have in weak ITV dramas when they are depicting young suburbanites having fun. Shame - could have been much better. Download 'Star' and have done with it.
Too smooth to be funky
Sometimes you can be too smooth for your own good: the RnB Lite is to the fore and only occasionally (in Track 6 Satisfied) does this talented group of musicians get your toe tapping.
Unknown to me but excellent
I purchased this album because it was an Amazon recommendation and the reviews were good so I thought it worth a gamble. Having played the album I couldn't believe how good it was. The musicianship and vocals are spot on and it is a great album for a quiet day or after a long day at work. All I can say is BUY IT NOW!
