Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Expansion are thrilled to present our third album by the incredible MAYSA LEAK. Maysa is still the best in the business for smooth classic soul as both a lead singer and regularly vocalist with INCOGNITO.

This album is truly STUNNING, unquestionably the finest soul album of 2008 to anyone brought up on Sade and Chaka Khan, or new to the music scene and into the more neo classic artists such as Ledisi. In fact Ledisi co-wrote one of the twelve brand new songs "Walk Away", while another contemporary Angela Johnson wrote "Happy Feelings". Elsewhere Maysa has co-written some stunning new tracks here with co-writer/producer Rex Rideout, the man responsible for Ledisi's most recent Verve album which has sold 100,000+ copies in the USA this year.
Once again all the bases are covered here in terms of styles and flavours including the future `modern soul' dance anthems to amazing ballads, Latin infused dancers, funk flavoured midtempos, all featuring her beautiful unique voice.

Album features two bonus tracks "I Can't Help It" and "All I Do" (not featured on the US version of this release)

Another outstanding release from Maysa.5
Metamorphosis

Singer and regular guest vocalist on many albums of Incognito, Maysa Leak releases her much-anticipated new CD titled Metamorphosis.

The album kicks off with the cool sound of "My Destiny" featuring Najee. On the tracks "Simpatico" and "Higher Ground" (featuring Nick Colionne's guitar & Najee's flute playing) Maysa's vocal is backed up with a Latin feel. On the songs "Take Me Away" (with it's lyrical reference to the soul classic Don't Let It Go To Your Head by Jean Carne) and "Grateful", these tracks are a nice down-tempo style. Colionne is also featured on the track "Let's Figure It Out (A Song For Bluey)" which is a highlight for me on this album, 7 minutes of instrumental and vocal in a smooth jazz/soul/house style.

The song "I Need A Man" sees Maysa deliver a strong lyrical message. The song "Happy Feelings" accurately describes its feel good sound. The ability to deliver classy ballads is one of Maysa's many talents and "Love So True" and "Walk Away" confirm this. The instrumental "A Conversation With The Universe" is a brilliant piece of music with its percussive and spaced-out beats. The final two tracks are covers of Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It" and Stevie Wonder's "All I Do". Both tracks show that when it comes to covering a song Maysa can deliver.

This new release from Maysa in my opinion is one the releases of 2008. As with all her previous releases a Maysa album is always a great addition to the soul music world. Highly recommended.

Nice Changes!!4
Maysa's Metamorphosis seems to have it all: words of encouragement regarding shaping your future (My Destiny), nicely-slotted sampling (Take me away), and even a checklist for the ideal man (I need a man)! (Single ladies, take note!!)
Also, being a huge jazzhead, I was pleasantly surprised to hear track 7 (Let's figure it out), which started off with some very smooth jazz, then morphed into funky dance beats. The funk continued with track 12's scatting.
I could go on, but you get the drift: I liked this CD! There are also two bonus tracks, covered in Maysa's unique velvety way.
I recommend you buy this, especially for the car. It'll make long drives very pleasurable!

2008 was a good year for Maysa. Not only did she sing on Incognitos brilliant Tales from from the Beach album , but she gave us this gem .
Very much Latin and laid back grooves ,this was very enjoyable. Those of you who listen to Jazz FM will know that Peter Young and Ralph Tee rated this album very highly( Ralph Tees album of the year )
The uptempo Jazzy Happy feelings and Higher Ground are superb along with Simpalico,Grateful,Take me away, never really ever and the love so true being standout cuts.
Excellent stuff , one of the best albumns last year
