Product Description

A stylish addition to the Doc Martens Gibson range. Hard wearing smooth leather upper with the classic Dr Martens yellow stitching detail. The trademarked air cushioned sole completes the look Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began in the town of Seeshaupt, Germany (near Munich) in 1945, when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To facilitate walking during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air cushioned sole. By using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to an inventor friend and the rest as they say is history!

Customer Reviews

Disappointing3
These shoes are called 'original' but they aren't really. They're now made in Thailand, not the UK, and are far less substantial than they used to be. The thick sole in the picture is only that depth at the very edges - across most of it's width it's fairly thin compared to the way they used to make them. They also seem to be narrower than the UK-made ones and pinch my outermost toes.
At £33 their reasonable value but I wish that they were 'proper' DMs.

Do not fit like they used to2
I have been wearing Doc Marten shoes for decades but the last two pairs have been quite painful to wear. I think they must have altered the shape slightly because now I just can't get a comfortable fit. They used to fit like a glove but not now. I still have some of the old ones and the shape does look slightly different. They are not made in the UK any more and I imagine it must have something to do with the move abroad.

Different from my old ones3
I ordered these in the same size as existing Dr Martins that I have. The new ones are, in my opinion, slightly poorer quality and also a little larger than previously making them a little less comfortable on my feet. Overall I'm a little disappointed and will probably look for other shoes when I come to replace them.
