Product Description

The dreadful secret that Torak carries with him at the close of SOUL EATER is revealed and he is cast out from the clans. It's his fourteenth summer. He's alone, cut off even from Wolf and Renn. Hunted and on the run he takes refuge in unknown territory - the haunted reedbeds of Lake Axehead, where he is menaced by the Hidden People. Other threats lurk nearby and his battle with the Soul-Eaters is far from over . . . As he fights for his life Torak uncovers a deception too awful to contemplate, one that shakes him to the core and shatters his world.

Christina Hardyment, THE TIMES
"It was a great idea to get Sir Ian McKellen to narrate Michelle Paver's gripping and fascinating CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS... Paver researched the subject deeply but wears her learning lightly, and McKellen has such vocal charisma that he holds you rapt."

About the Author
Born in Malawi to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'Nyasaland Times', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three. She was brought up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford, she became a partner in a big City law firm. Eventually, though, having submerged herself in myth and folklore (not at the office) and having been chased by a bear (again, not at work), she gave up the lawyer life to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer. Successfully published as an adult author, the CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS are her first - brilliant - books for children. Ian McKellen is internationally renowned for his distinguished work on stage and screen over four decades. He has won over 40 acting awards. He plays Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, Magneto in the X-Men films and Sir Leigh Teabing in The Da Vinci Code. Throughout his career, he has enjoyed working regularly for radio. His solo reading of The Odyssey for Penguin Books won a U.S. Audie in 1997. His full biography is on www.mckellen.com

Great series for boys5
My 12 year old son and I are hooked on the whole Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series by Michelle Paver I can't wait to read with him the latest edition to the series - Ghost Hunter. The books are about the adventures of a boy called Torak and his Wolf companion, it is set in the bronze age with people living in tribes, but it is very well done. We originally read the books together, but my son has since read all of the books again himself - if you are looking for a book or two to encourage your son to read more - this series is an absolute must - they are very hard to put down.

Brilliant book for Children and Adults alike5
I cannot say that I'm a big reader, in fact quite the opposite. But i love a good story when i hear one as much as the next person and on top of this I do some long journeys on a regular basis. These long journeys can be up to 7 hours but listening to an Audio book magically shortens that time and with the chronicles of Ancient Darkness, i arrive at my destination and have often sat there hanging on Ian Mckellen every word as i cannot bring myself to turn the radio off. Outcast is no different, well written and well read it's a story that'll make you want to go on those long journeys jut to give you an oppertunity to listen!

Great Audio Book - Fantastic story5
I really love the whole of the 'Outcast' series, the audio CDs are very well read by Ian McKellen, his voice lends real magic to the saga. The packaging is well made, and unlike other popular Audio CDs eg. HP titles, the packaging/sleeve allows for repeated use. The Amazon price at about £9, is very good value.
