Amazon.co.uk Review
Appreciating that the title does the film few favours, Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging nonetheless emerges as a really quite pleasant surprise.

Based on the book by Louise Rennison, and directed by Bend It Like Beckham helmer Gurinder Chadha, Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging centres around the character of Georgia Nicolson, played by Georgia Groome, and her trials and tribulations as a 14-year old. There are boys, to start with, namely two brothers who have just started at her school, that should help in her quest for a boyfriend. There’s her rival, Lindsay, along with her friends in the ‘Ace Gang’. And let’s not forget too Angus the cat. It’s a mixture that naturally sends Georgia’s head spinning, and it’s the basis of a strong film.

Far more than the teen Bridget Jones it threatened to be, Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging is actually a neatly layered, well-played film, that slots easily into the teen market that generally American cinema targets the best. Mixing some very funny moments in with the more dramatic (and it’s the quieter moments that ultimately impress the most), its young cast do themselves proud, helped immensely by the guiding hand of the ever-improving Chadha behind the camera.

What’s more, it’s rare to see a film that talks to a teenage target market as well as Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging, without the need for liberal dollops of gloss. It’s entertaining without being patronising, and shows that British cinema has more breadth to it than many may give it credit for. Warmly recommended. --Jon Foster

Synopsis
Directed by Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice), Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is a light-hearted, yet poignant look into the life of struggling teen, Georgia Nicolson. Georgia's life, though at times problematic, is simple. She adores her cat, Angus and enjoys hanging out with her best mates—known collectively as the Ace Gang—but wants more. Her decrepit parents just don't understand and couldn't possibly help her find a 'gorgeous sex-god' for a boyfriend or help plan the ultimate fifteenth birthday party. Matters complicate when two brothers, Tom and Robbie, arrive as new pupils at her school. Georgia finds an instant connection with the hunky Robbie, but so does her arch-rival, Lindsay... This tremendously fun rites of passage tale is Britain's answer to the burgeoning teen comedy sub genre; following in the footsteps of classic American films such as Mean Girls, Sixteen Candles and Clueless.

The film for girls in 20085
I really loved Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging as it is light-hearted and funny, yet realistic with film-y qualities. It is a must see for all teenage girls as it relates to the problems we may have, and is just a fabulous film to relax to. Watch it with an open mind and you'll love it!
I found that as a British "chic-flic" it was much more realistic than the plastic-style ones from America. Nothing is exaggerated any more than the average teenager would and the way Georgia is is very natural.
It involves everything from friendship to family, school to social life, and, of course, boys!
If you want a film which a girl from about 12 to 17 can relate to and enjoy, this is it. Also, if you have read the books it is a fab adaptation, but it does change a lot of the things which happen, so don't expect it to be as good as the books, just different.
Buy this and you (hopefully) won't be disappointed!
