Shooglenifty is at the forefront of the Celtic folk/fusion music scene. With their trademark combination of superb musicianship, ensemble cohesion and inventiveness, they integrate acoustic melodies with contemporary grooves. Troots, a collection of new tunes by members of the band, is Shooglenifty’s most mature album to date. The track "Excess Baggage" features the extraordinary vocals of North American Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq Gillis. Shooglenifty introduced the new album at their headline performance at the Celtic Connections Festival on 20th January 2007.

Customer Reviews

How goooooooood does it get?5
If you've lost the will to move or the world's transport system has crashed then you'll just have to make do with listening to Shooglenifty on your ipod...just so long as you get to listen to Shooglenifty at least once before the whole planet explodes. Otherwise track them down in a continent to suit yourself and turn up for a wild gig of mad music at four thousand miles an hour. You'll go home cured of everything...

And buy every album. You'll never ever tire of them. Not ever. Over ventilated hyperactive trippy jigs and reels to wake the dead....and stuff so gentle and melancholic you'll be needing a wee nip...just to help wipe away the tear. God I love Shooglenifty.

A genuine, original treasure5
I was lent this album by a friend, who had recieved it from his brother with a simple instruction - Listen to this, all the way through and then repeat. I had never heard of Shooglenifty or their music - now, having followed this advice, I can't get enough. This album is a cracker, with Eskimo throat-singing backing vocals, breathless reels and jigs that will have you on your feet and the irresistible, almost hypnotic build-up of Walter Douglas MBE. Only one thing is better than this CD - Shooglenifty live. Catch them if you can, until then this CD will be a more than satisfactory substitute.
