Manufacturer's Description
The FinePix F40fd features stunning, slim-line design, 8.3 megapixel high-performance Fujifilm Super CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and an easy-to-view 2.5-inch LCD monitor. The FinePix F40fd also features low-light performance of ISO 2000 at full resolution and Fujifilm's unique Intelligent Flash system, which enables users to capture natural looking images without the 'washed out' effect that can be the result of traditional on-camera flash.Fujifilm's hardware-based Face Detection technology captures up to ten faces in a frame in as little as 0.05 seconds, optimizing focus and exposure to take the best portrait shots. Face Detection sets imagination free to compose photos without the need to manually set the camera to get the best photo; a simple push of the shutter button is all that is required. In playback mode, Face Detection can be used to maintain faces as the key focus of a photo when cropping or zooming in.

    Built in Obsolescence1
This is my second Fuji Camera.
    I had a Fuji-F10 and a Fuji-F40 FD
Both eventually failed with the same problem.
Lines across the photo caused by failed CCD Sensors.
Judging by the web this is a common problem with Fuji but not mentioned at all as a problem on the support websites.
For me the Fuji-F40 also developed a faulty zoom lens.
In the 18 months I had the camera 6 of that was spent in repair.
Camera's should at least be made to last 3 to 4 years.
Mine both went not far outside warranty.
The F40 FD also took dark photos for about 3 months before the sensor went.
The camera appeared good originally out of the box but its been so frustrating since I couldn't give it any more than one star.

Fuji quality is not what it used to be !3
Fuji for me has always been a good reliable make with good customer service & after sales extended warrantys, which i cant fault cause other manufactuers dont, except for paying up front with Allianz insurance which is quite pricey.

I am on my 10th Fuji camera with no complaints all ranging from compacts to big zooms like A- series A202/A400, F- series F450/F455/F11/F30/F60fd, Z- series Z5fd to S- series S6500fd & now this one, the F40fd.

I have been in the market for 3 new fuji compacts, 1 for me to replace my F11, very hard to do ! & 2 for christmas presents, so to start im thinking back to a year ago i purchased a Z5fd for my girlfriend which has served very well with good picture quality as a p&s ! so decided to buy 3 of them but ended up taking all 3 back with faults from chips out the side of the lcd to dead pixels from new, not just the odd ones, many of them, per camera, had all the cameras replaced but still the same unacceptable problem so had refund on all 3, next for me was a nearly top of the range F60fd but was so disappointed ! nice camera but the picture quality was noisey, grainey, under exposed so compared it side by side image quality wise to my girlfriends Z5fd and it blow the F60fd away.

Next was this camera the F40fd after reading many reviews thought i had found the perfect presents & a treat for me so ordered 3 of them, great compact size, great image quality & uses sd card format but again had to return 2 of them as one had a blob under the lense with 4 green stuck pixels & other was covered in dead/stuck pixels all over the lcd, i no lcd screens do suffer with the odd 1 or 2 but this was crazy, had 2 replacements sent out but again same problem which by now is putting me right off fuji quality! so canon is my next choice.

If you can put up with these faults it is a great little camera but for me giving them to family for christmas presents its not on ! Sort your self out Fuji. I will say Amazon customer services were brilliant & i cant fault them in anyway, so keep up the good work ! but as for this Fuji F40fd camera, if u can get a decent one then you will love it but its a no from me & i would avoid !!!!

Produces good prints but hopeless for viewing on screen3
Previous to buying this camera I had a Fujifilm F700. This was easily the best camera I have ever had and when it stopped working after over 3 years hard service I naturally thought about another Fujifilm camera.
As soon as I reviewed my photos on screen I was very dissapointed, especially as I don't want to clog up my house with yet more paper prints. I want to put photos on Google Earth so clear sharp shots are a must.

My experience is that this camera produces screen shots which are of extremely poor quality - not fit for purpose at all. Out of curiousity I printed an image and every thing was sharp and bright, quite the opposite to what you see on screen. I will now need to buy another camera, and I will be buying one from a shop where I can test the camera before buying.
