From the Publisher
Many people know they could benefit from the therapeutic act of journaling, but the dread of not knowing what to put on the page stops them. Finally, Visual Chronicles provides a no-fear guide to expressing one's deepest self with art and words.
Sisters Linda Woods and Karen Dinino start each chapter by debunking a journaling myth, such as "I am not artistic." They then offer:
-Exercises that encourage readers to chronicle their thoughts and lives with painting, sketching, stamping, collaging, and writing;
-Friendly projects, including the Personal Palette and Mini Prompt Journal, to make each entry easier to start;
-Inspiration for experimenting with colors, shapes, ephemera, communication styles and more.
The unique combination of diverse artistic elements makes this book a must have for artists, crafters, scrapbookers, and writers.
About the Author
Sisters Karen Dinino (a lawyer) and Linda Woods (an artist) bring a right-brain/left-brain approach to journaling. Through their workshops, they coach artists to communicate better with words and writers to communicate better with art.

Disappointing
Firstly I should say that I am not a journaller - however I often buy books on this subject as they often contain good ideas that can be transferred to other media, or they are simply just beautiful to look at. In addition I recognise that people keep journals for a range of different reasons, all of which I feel are valid: a diary recording events or emotions, creative art, exploring (design) ideas, studying etc. Unfortunately the ideas and results portrayed in this book are such that I cannot see the point of them. The designs are too shallow to provide any insight, and too pictorially simplistic to provide any artistic interest. Some of the text is interesting, but not sufficient to warrent having bought the book. Overall very disappointing, and I would suggest only a complete beginner would derive any benefit from the contents.
A beautiful starting point.
This is a lovely book that doesn't deserve the one star rating that is above mine.
As mentioned, it is simple book, but with lovely ideas. As the title suggests, it's the perfect book for someone who wants to begin an art journal but doesn't know where to start. Yes, it's a beginners book, but that's exactly what it's intended to be.
Even though I now have very different styles than when I first read this, every time I look at it I get new ideas and inspiration for things I would like to do.
A beautiful book that I would suggest to anyone looking for a non-threatening entry to art journaling.
great book to inspire creativity
This is a great book for those interested in writing down their stories and giving them visual punch. Simple tips for anyone to try out.
