Unlike the other reviews, mine has been fine
I got one of these in December 2008 - so far, no problems. The light output is bright, the battery life is very good and the quality seems up to the other Maglites I've had previously.

It's slightly longer than a normal torch - however that's about it in terms of differences. Light quality is excellent - virtually no dark areas, unlike a krypton bulb.

Downsides? Focussing doesn't really work with these - it does make the centre brighter, however it's not a major change. Luckily the bulb is bright enough for this not to really matter.

Battery life is MUCH longer than with a standard krypton. I use mine with rechargeables - slightly bluer light output than with alkalines, however otherwise fine.

I'd recommended this torch actually - maybe I was just lucky!

very poor quality & shocking after sales service !
I Bought this thinking it would be upto the standard of the old bulb AA type, and for a while it was great - until it began to flicker and switch itself off ! I sent it back to the repair center & it came bact a week later and all seemed ok, but a week after back to the flickering again so back it went to the repair center. This time it was gone for a month ! when it came back same again, worked for a week and i'm back to square one again with a flickering useless maglite.
Oh and dont think Maglite hq in the usa are any help either.

Take my advice & get something else instead.

excellent quality
what an excellent beam for such a small torch. It can be directed at a particular thing or light up a reasonable area. Brilliant value for money and comes with a spare bulb.
