Truly a magical printer
We bought this to replace a tired old inkjet. My wife is self employed and needs to print off brochures en masse. It does this with great speed and accuracy of colour. We also use it to print pictures of our family to send to relatives.
The print quality is as good as our 5 year-old inkjet, which we bought on the basis that it did good colour prints.
The print speed is much faster than the 5 per minute advertised.
All laser printers are a little bit more noisy than inkjets and more bulky, but this model is more compact than any other laserjet I have seen in use. There is some background noise from the printer when it is switched on, probably a cooling fan. But we leave it switched off when not using it so this isn't a problem for us.
The toner cartridges seem to go on forever. The black toner low level light has been on for a while, but it keeps on printing. Replacement cartridges are cheaper than other laser jets (why we bought this model) and much cheaper per page than an inkjet.
Because we do not leave this printer switched on, the software brings an annoying pop-up on the screen to tell you that it isn't connected. This can soon be remedied with some simple adjustments to the aler settings.
Great printer
We bought this after a succession of HP inkjets and to replace a Samsung B&W laser. The following is based on first impressions - 24 hours use:
Pros: Very simple set-up, worked first time, excellent quality prints (B&W & colour), simple & effective driver (a refreshing change from HP's), nice colour case, v. good value, adequately fast start-up, fast free delivery from Amazon.
Cons: Bigger than previous printers, a bit noisier, uses a lot of power (250W in stand-by).
A real 'Value for money' printer!
I never really quite did enough printing to justify the initial outlay of a laser printer, however, I seemed to be buying expensive inkjet cartridges far too often. What I needed was a good value for money laser printer and this is what I found with this Magicolor 2500W.
I did quite a lot of research before deciding on which printer to purchase and the reviews here really helped (thanks guys!!). The printer has turned out to be everything I expected; yes, it is 'a wee bit loud' when printing; yes, the footprint is twice the size of my previous inkjet (it still fits on my desk though) and yes, it was quite straightforward and easy to set up.
But better than any of the above, and the main reason that I now own one of these printers, was the price here on Amazon!!! At £149 with free delivery it was way ahead of the next best price I could find anywhere! Ebay couldn't get near the same price and then there was some expensive postage costs to pay on top! By the way, it isn't light (in the region of 20kgs) so if you do have to pay for postage, it won't be cheap!!
In summary, I wanted to reduce my pence per page printing costs but didn't want to have to pay significantly more for the initial purchase cost. I've found exactly what I was looking for with this Konica Minolta 2500W and at £149 you just can't beat it!!!
